You are correct in agreeing with the verse. If you read the entire passage Paul is talking to Christians (saved persons) about eating meat that has been offered to idols (false gods). In this verse it is saying, that there is only one God, the Father. And there is one Lord, Jesus Christ.
It is not talking about the trinity.

The Father is also the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Read John 14:16-20.
You don't have One Person of the Trinity without getting the other two.

The Trinity is not a scriptural teaching. Here are some other scriptures that contradict it:
“Of that day or that hour, no one knows, not even the angels in Heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.” -Mark 13:32
“If you loved me, you would have rejoiced, because I go to the Father; for the Father is greater than I.” -John, 14:28
"But I want YOU to know that the head of every man is the Christ; in turn the head of a woman is the man; in turn the head of the Christ is God." -1 Corinthians 11:3
To be quite honest, the teaching of the Trinity is not found in the Bible, and is actually contradicted by it.
P.S.- It may say that Jesus and God are one, but it also says that Apollo and Peter are one (1 Corinthians 3:4-8). Doesn't necessarily mean they're the same person.

Because our Father in Heaven is God. His son Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior. And then there is the Holy Ghost who is the spirit that helps us know what is right. They are 3 distinct personages but act as one in the God Head. But Jesus can act for his Father (like a Prince can act for the King at times) so they are "as one". I don't understand the Trinity because so many places in the Bible God the Father speaks from Heaven about his Son Jesus and Jesus prays to his Father. It also states that Jesus is Gods only Begotten Son (in the flesh is what begotten means) Since you can't be your own father the trinity idea makes no sense.
The Trinity was decided by man about 400-500 years after Christ was crucified and resurrected. The other thing to remember is that the Bible was not compiled until 400AD by a clerk of Alexander the Great. The clerk decided what books to put in the Bible and in what order. So remember that there could be missing details from the Bible and you need to ponder and pray for yourself to get answers to questions.

Oops, you forgot to read all the Bible. Don't worry too much about that, it's a common fatal mistake amongst religious unbelievers. Try John 1, Revelation 1, and tons of other Scriptures that make it clear that Jesus is God. And just for fun, go to Acts 5 and read about the Holy Spirit being God. Of course the Bible also says the Father is God: Hmmm, The Father is called God, Jesus is called God, the Holy Spirit is called God, let's just say Trinity.

I agree, your right. One God, One Christ (Jesus) and one Holy Spirit. Don't forget when Jesus was baptized everyone heard GOD's voice say (paraphrasing) "behold my son, in whom I'm am will pleased. And the dove of the Holy Spirit. Count them. three different beings. There are one in purpose like a Team (or marriage per se) but different beings.

you answered your own question, there is only one God. there is God the Father, and God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. you can't get to God except by the other 2. they arent 3 seperate Gods like i think your trying to make it out that some of us believe? Jesus says 'I and my Father are One.' and study further by reading John 1. In the beginning was the word and the Word was With God and the Word was God....and the Word came to earth in the Flesh to be among us.

The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are all in essence God and you cannot tell them apart execpt for the roles they play in human lives. God the Father is God, God the Son is the atonement for sin, and God the Holy Spirit is seal of our faith.
So while yes all three are God, only God the Father occupies the role of God of all things.
A good analogy I've heard is think about H2O. It can be seen as water, ice, and steam. All three are completely different and yet all three are identical in that they are all H2O.

You can't just take one passage out of context and base your whole belief on it. The entire New Testament brings us to the conclusion that God is One in three Divine persons. Even in the Old Testament, God refers to himself as us.
[Mat 28:19] Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit,
[Gen 1:26] Then God said: "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. Let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and the cattle, and over all the wild animals and all the creatures that crawl on the ground."

You should really go all the way and read the rest of the Bible, too.
Taking one verse out of the whole of scripture is a poor way to choose one's beliefs.
