I have prepared a Market survey report which I want to sell. Many clients are asking to give it as soft copy. My fear is that they may copy it and resell. I understand that a document when converted to pdf file cannot be copied. Pl. suggest me a Freeware which converts Word/ Excel file to pdf file, which the buyer alone can use to browse but cannot be copied or resold. Any alternative suggestions are also welcome with profound thanks in advance.

It looks like Adobe Online (beta) offers a free web based version you can try for limited use.

Even if you password protect the document, people may still get around this. They will if they perceive a good enough economic reason versus the time it takes to convert/scan or crack your password.

Several years back, I did sell a PDF file that had a password. The password was the same for everyone and it got out and was posted. At the time, there was a protection method offered that mapped the document to a specific PC or PCs. I think the user was allowed to open it on several machines in case they had both a notebook and desktop. The users were mainly academic type people. However, the cost was outside of what I wanted to spend.

I suspect if you do a search on the phrase "PDF protection", you could probably find people selling these type of tools.

If they are good clients, I wouldn't worry. My definition of "good" is a client who wouldn't do anything to jeopardize the business relationship.

Sorry to rain on your parade, but many types of files can be converted from PDF to whatever with the "PDF Converter," which I have, and it is not costly.

Converting a document to PDF - that's costly. Have to have Acrobat.

Suggest you distribute a "taste" of your file and do not disclose the whole thing without remuneration.

download and Install Acrobat RW with distiller. after installing Acrobat RW, you will have an extra tool button at toolbar for acrobat PDF converter.

In distiller setting, you have to select PDF writing as option. Furthermore, In printer setting, you will find a PDF writer as a printer driver.
