Water is a symbolic action of washing away sins. When you are baptised, you are always baptised by spirit, whether water is used or not.

Baptism with water is the physical baptism. Baptism with the spirit is the "indwelling" of the Holy Spirit that comes with the physical baptism. See Matthew 3:12 where John the Baptist foretells of this different kind of baptism. Similar in Mark 1:8, Luke 3:16, and John 1:33. Jesus who John was speaking of says in John 3:5 that if one wants to enter God's kingdom, he must be "born of the water and Spirit". The whole book of Acts is a good study of the Holy Spirit and the promis we we have of "receiving" the Holy Spirit (after Jesus' time). I hope this clears it up a little for you. Books and volumes have been written on the topic and it would take much more than these few lines to explain appropriately if you are not clear. And this is not to belittle, but to say its a great question and a right question. I hope you will team with a pastor or a Bible study to look at it more in depth.

With baptism with water it shows God your serious to receive baptism with spirit. Baptism with water symbolizes that you wash your sins away, and Baptism with the spirit is where you replace those sins with the blood of Jesus, which makes you spotless before the face of God.

There's only one baptism ... with water ... in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit ... when one becomes a living temple of the Holy Spirit, a member of God's church, an adopted child of God, and co-heir with Jesus Christ.

Anythng else is just a false tradition of men.

Actually I think you heard it wrong...it's "baptism OF the spirit"...and "baptism with water" are the exact same thing. It's baptizing with water in the name of the spirit.

Well, with baptism with water, there's water involved.

Baptism with the spirit is dry, in general, though some people do have tears.

Well I don't want to attempt theology, but the Holy Spirit baptizes your spirit into the body of Christ (The Church) and as a result you confess your a christian. After that as an outward sign, that Jesus commanded, you get baptized with water.

When you baptized in the spirit you are just that in the spirit. When you are baptized in the water, you are fully submerged under the water.
