I am a new mommy. Thanks for all of your advice. I see this was not the place to advertise. Sorry! I will do more research on the do's and don'ts of a schnauzer and seek advice from his vet.

You should not have said you needed to "mate" the dog. If you're just looking for a second dog so your dog will have someone to play with and keep him company, go to your local Humane Society or ASPCA. They have hundreds of perfectly good dogs who desparately need homes. And rescue dogs/pound puppies are great pets; it's almost like they know they got a second chance at life (or maybe they truly do know).

Go to the shelter, narrow your choices down to two or three, then come back with your current dog. Let him meet each candidate and see how they get along. Whoever he likes best is your new dog. Just don't take him on the first visit; animal shelters are loud, smelly, and stressful for the animals that are living or visiting there. You will probably be in there for a while to look at all the dogs; no need to put him through that stress.

If you want a companion for your dog and don't want the headaches that come with introducing another animal into the home with a new baby then let your dog pick it's companion.Don't do it for him.And remember to show equal amounts of attention to each and at the same time so no one gets his nose out of joint.
Go look for suitable companions for your dog taking him with.Pick several and find a place where they can all meet. It'll only take a few minutes for your dog to show which one it favors.

I think it was just the way you worded it. You said you needed a female ASAP! You sounded like a breeder, a bad one.
