Good question! My soldier has already been there 12 months, and still doesn't have return date to come home.

I'll tell you what we hear around here in Kuwait. There will always be a US base in Kuwait. This is an agreement between the Kuwaiti and US government. The US base in Kuwait provides the US with a strategic location in the region on friendly ground so the US operations in Kuwait are explicit. Kuwait benifits from the protection of having the US army to prevent a similar situation as the Desert War in 1990/1991. Troops come and go through the base, but there will always be a US base in Kuwait, so there will always be US troops in Kuwait.

Troops serving in Kuwait usually is 12 months, I know because I'm in the army national guard leaving in October myself to serve a 12 month tour. When will they be out for good, that's a question that won't be answered for along time.

Most of the ones there now will return at the end of their present enlistment terms. They will be replaced by others, who will return at the end of their enlistment terms. This cycle will likely repeat itself over and over for perhaps the next 50 to 60 years (as it has in Germany, Italy, Korea, and elsewhere).
