The only pain (discomfort) you're going to feel after having a root canal done is a little soreness from the point of injection. That'll be hardly noticable and it won't affect your work. A root canal is the removal of the nerve that causes the tooth ache, so there is no pain once the nerve is out!! Don't use the dental procedure as a lame excuse to miss work,, if you want the day off, just take it.

The new root canal techniques are said to be a lot easier on you and take less time to recuperate. Talk to your dentist and see what he suggests, based on the type of root canal work that he does.

Personally, I never feel very good after a root canal, so if it were me, I'd take the day off.

I would play it safe, take the day off. You might feel fine and dandy when you leave the dentist's office, but when that novocaine wears off, you either will be in some intense pain, or you'll feel fine. I had 3 done in the same trip (I don't recommend this, it was a pain, afterwards.) and even after the novocaine wore off, I felt just fine. You might be good, but, like I suggested, take the day off.

I had a root canal about 6 months ago and it still hurt up to about 2 weeks later and then it was just tender for another week or so. Couldn't eat alot the first week. You will feel fine to go to work although your mouth will be numb. I took the day off and went home to sleep since they gave me pain medicine that made me sleepy.

I have had root canals and have had no problem going back to work after. I have a desk job though. I wouldn't take a day off for this, use it for something good.

If you have a high pain tolerance.. you can go back as soon as you are done, if you have no tolerance I'd take the day off.. Once they do the canal you have no feeling in that tooth anyway and the Novocaine's the surrounding areas.

You should be fine unless it was abcessed or infected big time even like that I dont think you need time off from work can feel sore for the next 3-5 days or nothing at all take Ibuprophen notTylenol or asprin this won't cut it

When the Novocaine wears off you will be quite sore.

Make sure the dentist prescribes (at least) Vocodin or codeine -- don't take "aspirin" for an answer, or you'll be sorry.

In either case -- take the day off unless you want to work in pain or doped up.
