Please, no political comments or debate, I just want some supporting evidence, and I can't seem to wade past the Kerry references.

Ok, again, please no bashing either Republicans or Democrats. I want to write a quick English essay detailing differences between Vietnam and Iraq (for no other reason than I live in a military town, so everyone will actually have some interest in it), and I need to have something to back up the "three purple hearts sent you home" thing from Vietnam.

Well most folks were who were wounded bad enough did not need 3. John Kerry's service in Vietnam lasted 4 months and 12 days, beginning in November 1968 when he reported to Cam Ranh Bay for a month of training. His abbreviated combat tour ended shortly after he requested a transfer out of Vietnam on March 17, 1969, citing Navy instruction 1300.39 permitting personnel with three Purple Hearts to request reassignment.

No. I was an enlisted solider in Vietnam in 1968 and heared talk by officers about getting metals for just pushing paper work for it would help them when they get out. A purple Heart gets you a better chance of federal emplyment..Officer can put them selfs in for medals and me being young and dumb gor a minor scratch from falling debry from a far away ammunition dump but didn't think much of it for I was raised a man and believed a purple heart was for serious injuries little did I know the advantage a little scratch could give. If you have plans for a political career nothing better then medal earned or not earned. There was some documentary films about just handing out medals to make people happy, Look up medal of honors and you'll see that Mac Arthur got it for leaving his command. People will use other people or lies just to look good to other people who don't know any better.

I don't think this is true, if you were hurt badly enough I guess they sent you home. I have a combat action ribbion but never got hurt. I think you stayed until you finished your tour of duty...however being in the Navy I ended up doing four tours of duty.

Yes, but anyone who gets 3 Purple Hearts probably would want to stay, for PAYBACK.
