They are very sensitive to any changes in their surroundings and can detect toxins and chemicals. They become ill quickly and expand their gills to detox their bodies.

I think its smart fish will detect changes in water much more than any technology that we have come up with so far.

Depends on what you mean. I'm assuming that the fish either die from the poison or from the autopsy to look to see if they've been poisoned.

I'm torn. If it were something that wasn't a necessity to live then I'd say no animal testing. But we can't live without water; and we can't live with bad water. I'd rather they find a different way to check the safety, but if this is the only way we can now then keep doing it.
