Solar. The sun (or, at least solar light and radiation) is always with us. Even on cloudy days there is at least some solar radiation that hits the earth, which can be collected and exploited for producing power. So my vote would be for solar.

Good night, and good luck. Col. Kurtz.

Nuclear fusion. It should only be a matter of when, not if, we make it work, and it will fit into the current power grid system quite nicely.

Wind and solar power are not practicable, because:

1) They are not always "on", so you can't control output, requiring a massive restructuring of the current grid

2) Lots of people say they want it, but when someone (like the local power utility, for instance) actually proposes building wind or solar power generating stations, the locals usually oppose it (it's known as NIMBY ism; NIMBY = Not In My Back Yard... "oh, those 200' tall towers just ruin the view! I'm sure they can find someplace else for them...).

"Bio-fuels" aren't an option either, as it takes as much energy to produce them as you get out of them.

At this point, fission reactors are starting to look real damn good...

And for the record: yes, they can build a new one right here in my hometown... hell, I would even apply for work there!

Well, it would be cool if we had nuclear fusion. The energy obtained would be pretty much infinite, much cheaper and cleaner than nuclear fission. The only by-product from it is some nuclear radiation ,left over in the reactor itself when it's decommissioned, which is fine because it pretty much dissipates in a matter of decades instead of millennia.

I'd probably choose fusion. While so far no one's managed it, it looks very possible and shouldn't be too hard with enough more research. And it's much safer and cleaner than standard fission power (although even fission power is better than fossil fuels).

Solar. Because it's always there.
Once the sun "goes out" we are in BIG trouble!

Solar is about the only one that we probably couldn't destroy ourselves with.
