Why is abortion wrong?

Before you get on your soap box, hear me out. Why is abortion wrong? Unwed mothers that don't want a child or can't afford one have the right to terminate a pregnancy but there are picketers there. And let's not forget those god fearing Christians that go around offing doctors that perform the abortions. A fetus can't survive outside the womb until it is at LEAST five months and even then, it needs extensive medical assistance. If you cling to the TRUE teachings of the church then you shouldn't seek medical help because YOUR god will cure you of all ills. "Spontaneous abortion" is the technical term for a miscarriage but no one likes to use that term.
So why is abortion wrong? I am not condoning it as a form of birth control but I do wonder why people think it is wrong to terminate a pregnancy. An unwanted child doesn't stand a fighting chance in this world and don't give me the adoption crap either. Gay couples can't adopt the kids "no one else wants" because they are gay.

For those that say killing a "living thing" is wrong ... do you say the same thing when you are having a hamburger or steak?

I guess Denis Leary was right ... we only want to save the "cute" things.

Ohhhh boy, don't EVEN get me started. OK, FINE! I've STARTED:

1. If someone doesn't care enough to keep a baby, then WHEN THEY DECIDE TO KEEP IT (it WILL happen, you KNOW it will), then the poor kid will have an entire life being mistreated, ignored, abused and otherwise have a horrible life.

2. how many babies/kids/juvenile humans have been killed in evil ways by their mothers or "fathers"? LOTS. Why would anyone prefer to FORCE a woman to give birth to something which would in all likelihood be tortured/tormented for all it's life??? That would be DISGUSTING.

3. If by chance the mother is FORCED to give birth because all the a$$hole politicians and short-sighted, sanctimonious imbeciles who pride themselves on sticking their worthless noses into other people's business, the child will in all likelihood live with the resentment and dread pushed upon it by an unwilling mother. It may not be a conscious decision on the mother's part, but will more than likely occur.

So, in MY opinion, if one should dictate what another individual's freedom consists of, and mandate such a life-changing situation upon a person merely because of one's OWN misguided beliefs, then the propagator should have his/her OWN freedoms and joys ripped away, and leave the OTHER person who's life it actually AFFECTS the HECK ALONE.

AND, more than ANYTHING, do NOT bring some mythical, all-powerful OZ into the discussion or I will be forced to bring a SIMILAR, yet MORE powerful and STILL as fictitious ARCHIE ANDREWS into the discussion. Flippin psychos and your "god".

To summarize, ABORTION IS NOT WRONG if done within sensible parameters!

Bible teaches us not to kill each other, and even if we are not killing a 'baby' we are killing what will become a baby. If you dont want to have a baby or can not afford it, dont have sex or use Birth Control. Abortion is NOT Birth Control. The God fearing Christians that 'off' Dr.s are not all there if you ask me. The Bible clearly states NOT to kill another person. So why is having a war ok? We don't see this as murder, but a necessity for some reason. Wish I had all the answers

If the absence of a beating heart and functioning brain waves is "absence of life" then the opposite must be life. All present around 9 weeks. I don't feel like it is just an unwanted "thing" but a "life" a "person."
Spontaneous abortion is the correct medical term for a miscarriage. But not a deliberate termination of a pregnancy. The people that don't like the word...don't understand its meaning.
I went to The Bodies The Exhibition and there were unborn babies at 12 weeks gestation and they looked just like tiny tiny babies. I just can't see them as a waste product. My baby was born at 32 weeks and he was small but perfect. It was amazing to see each tiny feature.
I think adoption should be easier. People in the US are having to go to China and other countries to get babies and we have tons here. Gay couples that would provide loving homes should be able to adopt. Birth control and good old fashioned teaching would be nice...no sex until a committed relationship. But yes, I know, that isn't going to happen.

I agree. Some attribute the decreasing crime rate in the mid-nineties to the leagalization of abortion 20 or so years prior. It is a fact that children who grow up in familys that are poor are more likely to commit crimes. When abortion was legalized, many of these kids were not born. Read the book Freakonomics for more theories on abortion and etc.

I would hope that my children wouldbe responsible enough to protect themselves from this situation, but everyone makes mistakes, and honestly I would rather my daughter went and got an abortion than try some coathanger crap. Because that stuff used to happen a lot.

Well unfortunately people are too irresponsible to actually use a thing called "precautionaries". I understand the whole "heat of the moment" problem that arises sometimes...but still, there is such a thing as being prepared. I know alot of people that have kids that wanted abortions but didn't do it, some of them should have though when I see thier parenting skills. I'm not either for nor against abortions...that's a decision I'll never have to make being I'm not having any more kids.

I believe that everybody should make their own choices. But I still think abortion is wrong. It's just the easy way out of taking responsibility for your actions. I would never personally have an abortion but I will not say anything about people who do. I also believe that if you are old enough to spread your legs then you better be prepared to take care of your child.

First of all, A baby has a heartbeat at 6 weeks. It's a baby.
Second of all, they don't let you have an abortion until your farther along so no matter what, your baby already has a heartbeat when they go in and tear it limb from limb and suck it out. The baby is being dissembled a little at a time.
Thirdly, There are so many women that desperately want to have a child and aren't able. And now a days, teens are keeping there babies instead of giving them up for adoption. Adopting a baby is very hard because there just aren't many baby's for adoption.
A women can easily give her baby up for adoption. She can get all her medical bills paid for plus get so much more out of it.
If a women doesn't want a baby, she can leave it at a hospital or Fire Department, No questions asked. They take the baby and put it up for adoption at the proper place.
There is no reason to KILL a baby.

Well if they dont want a child give it to someone who does My moms friend always wanted a daughter and when She got one it died because of health complications then she got one and she couldnt have had better care Your killing part of yourself something defenssless and growing something that hasnt even got the muscle to move a finger and your going to kill it have the baby and give it to someone who deserves it

All i read after the question was "soap box"!! There is NO gray area here!!! It doesn't matter; it is MURDER!!!! Killing a baby in the womb is the same as sneaking into someones house and killing their baby in it's crib!! No difference!! If you don't want to face the consequences of your actions; DON'T HAVE SEX!!!!! Why should an innocent baby have to pay the ultimate price for irresponsible behavior??? Abortion is the taking of life at its earliest stage. The right or wrong issue it would seem is up to the individual. Some people stand on the morality of it, others stand on the viewpoint of religion. God does not consider pregnancy an ailment and also He works things according to His will. However He also leaves decisions on mankind up to mankind to allow freewill. Follow your heart there. Ask the question where would I be if my mother decided to terminate me before ever knowing me. God says He knows you before you are born and all creatures are beautiful to Him. So right or wrong?
