I can understand the confusion and the association with Vlasic. What the Coca Cola Corporation did in the 80's was add stork blood to their soft drinks. It was an early stab at energy drinks and also rode the Goth wave that was beginning then.
This new formula had product tie ins with the release of Bram Stoker's Dracula and Lost Boys, but even with a McDonald's fun meal it went nowhere. As others have already pointed out, the product was a flop because it tasted oddly like Mercurochrome and stank of guano. It disappeared from the shelves within weeks and it was back to the drawing board for the evil corporate bloodsuckers.

Larry is lying about the pickle juice, but there was new coke in the 80s. Sorry about your coma, hope this helps fill in the blanks.
New Coke was the unofficial name of the sweeter drink introduced in 1985 by The Coca-Cola Company to replace its flagship soda, Coca-Cola or Coke. Properly speaking, it had no separate name of its own, but was simply the new version of Coke, until 1992 when it was renamed Coke II.
Public reaction to the change was devastating, and the new cola quickly entered the pantheon of major marketing flops. The subsequent reintroduction of Coke's original formula led to a significant gain in sales. Although the company insisted, and the historical record suggests, it was an unplanned reaction to the perceived rejection of New Coke, many urban legends and conspiracy theories that continue to circulate claim it was planned all along and offer various reasons for it.

Groooaaan....
Wow, he's the kidder...
It was Coca-Cola Classic. Which has become the Coke you buy today. For a short time it was discontinued while they were trying to sell their new formula of coke. But it just didn't catch on and people were requesting the old formula stuff which they brought back as Coca-Cola Classic. The new formula of Coca-Cola was eventually retired. And they have changed the packaging of the Coca-Cola Classic to say just Coca-Cola now.

Sounds like Larry was pulling your pickle... Friends don't let friends pull their pickles, unless you dig that sort of thing.
See what happens, Larry???
I thought Coca Cola Spastic was responsible for the wigged out 80's??

actually that is true...in the 80's they did try to change the recipe and as you are reading from previous answers it was a complete flop (it tasted just like pepsi). I dont know about other places but here in Canada you can buy coke in cans & plastic bottles like everywhere else BUT you can also buy it in single serving glass bottles (like when i was a kid)...it tastes different than the one in the cans & plastic bottles (not as sweet)

they changed the formula, but I don't think it was pickle juice. It was a huge flop. That's why coke is called Coke Classic.
