Anxiety is the emotional equivalent of physical pain—it warns you that danger is near like physical pain warns you that you have touched something sharp, hot, etc. We need both anxiety and pain to protect ourselves. This is good anxiety and good pain.

If we get into an anxious state without clear cause, and it persists, then we need treatment to discover its cause or counter it with medication. Short acting anti-anxiety drugs have the danger of creating a drug dependence. Talk to a professional while taking meds.
