Here's a cool trick: Put some tape sticky side up on the counter. When your cat jumps up it will get the tape stuck to its paws, and immediately jump down. It wont hurt the cat, but cats hate it and it doesn't take too many times of this happening before they stop jumping up there. Alternately, you can keep a spray bottle with water handy and squirt the cat when it jumps up. The problem with this method is that you have to witness the act and be quick on the draw.

You can try spraying him with water when you catch him up there or use a load noise to scare him. If it's a certain spot he jumps up at you can put down some sticky tape. Also try putting your keys somewhere else so there's less stuff to interest him so he won't want to jump up there. As for the phone you can't really move it but maybe make it ring loud when he's up there messing with it to scare him away from it and to not want to play with it anymore. I have a kitten too who wont stop jumping up on the counters but she's doesn't really play with anything just sits there. I've tried to spray here but it's only a temporary fix, but it works for some cats. My other kitten never gets on the counters. Only the one stubborn one. It depends on your cats personality.

Believe it or not...there's a simple solution, other than having the cat for dinner. Years ago I had the same problem with my cat, so I picked up a roll of sticky fly paper and laid it out on the counter tops for a couple of days. I just sat back and watched him jump up onto the counter and boy, was he surprised. The harder he tried to get out of the mess, the worse it got. Soon, he was all wrapped up in the paper and never again jumped up on the counter. Cats are pretty smart. At least mine was. Not long ago I noticed that all of my credit cards were maxed out and I couldnt figure out how that was even possible, Afterall, It was just me and the kitty. Well, I soon found out. I went into the back yard and there was the answer, New Cat Toys Everywhere...Cats are bad when they wanna be. lol. Larry

I noticed you said "HE"....so from someone who also has a male cat, I understand that they are much more stubborn and hard-headed than females...and they don't tend to startle as easily.

Someone once told me that aluminum foil works well....that they don't like the feel of it on their paws. (Well, it might work for yours...but mine, just sprawled out on it like it was a blanket). Squirt Guns can work...but after a while they really could care less. I think what probably works best is making as much noise as possible--as unexpectedly as possible. You can put pie pans around the edge of the counters...or anything that will rattle loudly when he jumps up.

You're probably going to have to try a couple different techniques...but I'm sure you'll get the right one.

Good luck!!!!

A squirt bottle with lemon juice, And "Say No Very Loud" One good squirt of Lemon Juice in the Face works...... But don't over do it.... Do this a number of times with the Lemon Juice and say "NO VERY LOUD"..... Once the cat know's What "NO" means switch over to water in the bottle.. you may never have to use the bottle again but just have it around and or just pick it up when you say no.. Just to remind the cat that you still mean business..... the Bottle should be on spray not mist.. for best results...
Good Luck....

Pepper
Sprinkle pepper all over the counter. Cats always are cleaning themselves. They hate pepper. When the cat stops jumping on the counter. Place the left over pepper in a plastic bowl. To save for when he forgets about the pepper. You have it close by to remind him. My girlfriend uses this method and it works great.

Get a spray bottle and fill it with water. Every time you catch your cat jumping on the counter or atleast trying to, then sternly say "no" and spray him with water. Also, PetSmart has a spray that keeps cats from certain areas as well.

The squirts of water only work while you are in the room. The powder on the counter works but, do you want the mess? What is the problem with the cats on the counter?

nicely you suggested you preserve the counters sparkling, and cats will take a seat everywhere thats mushy to them. I advise my cats somtimes take a seat interior the sink i don't see what's quite mushy approximately that. besides in line with possibility they don't experience they have everywhere else to take a seat down or this is the main mushy place on your place. Why do not you you purchase some catnip and sprinkle it in a position this is out of how or the place you want them to take a seat down. wish this helped :-)

Put down some cornmeal on the counter top. They don't like the feel of the little granules on their paws and it can get in between the toes. Also a water bottle works beautifully too. And it's quite amusing when they try to run from the water.
