Some people need a crutch to get through life, they like to think or have someone tell them that everything will be OK. They need stabilization, or a meaning to it all ! And that's OK if it helps them get a hold on things, and it also makes them more productive citizens

Because there are real people out there every day preaching about the benefits and truths that those things offer. Their speil is so logical you cannot fail to be impressed and convinced, just like what happens on other religious themes. After you hear it 500 or 600 times, you figure it must be real and buy into it.

ur question isn't valid because the term "weird" is an opinion. kinda like the words "stupid", "ugly" or "smelly".
why do u believe in gravity? Some people just do, others have strong reasons and stand firmly by them.

Many people need something outside themselves to rely on. They need something to blame when things go wrong or they do something wrong, someone to ask for help when they don't want to do it themselves....Many people just can't stand on their own two feet and take responsiblity for their lives. Those people need religion to take the fall.
