how can i keep it somewhat straight overnight?

You have to dry it completely and then style it. Ironing with a ceramic iron helps-

you should just blow dry it out because you should NEVER go to sleep with wet hair.

blow it out so its all dry then sleep on it when it cools. it makes my coarse hair feel much smoother
