Omar,
There is no word we can use
for it like we have in Spanish.
I use Citizen of the USA as
American, to me, encompasses
the entire continent, South, Central
and North America.
North American is not fair either,
because there are the Mexicans
and the Canadians.
So, the only fair and true way
to say Estaunidense is
Citizen of the United States of America.
Largo, no?

The only true adjective for a person from the United States is 'American', which obviously isn't great because America is much more than the United States. Everyone understands American to mean someone from the US though so it's ok to say it.

The Royal Academy of English Language must find a word for the people of the USA, because " Americans" is very general and don't apply to one country

In English, a person from the United States is an AMERICAN.
There is no confusion.
No more than when my friends from Mexico D.F. Tell me they are from Mexico and expect me to understand that they mean Mexico City, and not Mexico the country.
The PROBLEM isn't the word, it's the culture. If we called our country BOB, you'd still object to the name.
We were the FIRST independant country on the continent, and yes, will a little bravado, the country was named AMERICA.

There is no neutral term for a person who comes from the United States in English, except "person who comes from the United States". "American" works in most situations.

It is impossible!
English is a very limited language!
You can not say words like: " Coyote"," Coup d'Etat" or " Volkskrieg" in English.
English is a poor language, just used for intn'l business
