I have leashed trained three of my cats and we had a lot of fun together. It's quite an experience and nothing like walking a dog.

A cat MUST have a harness with the leash attached. Cats' necks are very delicate and you cannot control a cat with just a collar and leash. If you were to try to restrain a cat with just a collar and leash you could do him serious injury.

It is an investment in time to do the training and I think other suggestions might be a better and easier way for you to go. I have carpeted window perches in many windows of my house and watching out the window is a favorite pastime for my cats. They are sold in many pet stores and fit into most window frames very easily.

No its dangerous for a cat. Cats are extremely territorial and get really freaked out to leave their territory because they feel the need to protect it. Also when they smell that they are in another cats territory they become scared of the dangerous situation, further forcing a cat outside or for a walk is stressful and will mostly likely agitate the cat. Leave the door open and he'll go out if he pleases or when he feels ready. Some cats stay in doors all the time, as long as he is a healthy weight and your house has sufficent ventilation there is no real need to bring him outdoors.
Cats are very good at taking care of themelves.
However, I would be concerned if he used to go outside but no longer does. Or if he is more lethargic, than he used to be. It might be age but it also might be an illness, instead of phsically walking him outside, your best bet would be to ask his vet to look him over.
Good luck

Why not? I've seen people walking their cats and it lookd so cool! If people think walking a cat is weird then get this-just up the road from my house (in Sydney, Australia) there is a couple that take their pet SHEEP for a walk...so if a sheep can do it then a cat can too...good luck getting it to actually walk on the lead I tried it with my cat and it didn't like it very much!

I live where there isn't much traffic, and I take my cat for a walk (not on a leash, she follows me) every day if it's nice. We walk to the soda machine nearby and back. The cat loves to walk with me. My friend has an indoor cat but she puts him in a harness on a leash (he's kind of big so it's actually a small-dog harness). he doesn't mind at all. He likes to walk out in the yard and roll on the driveway, and try to eat grass.

There are cat leashes but don't expect your cat to take to one right away. Some cats really enjoy it but most hate the leash, at least until they figure out that is the only way they're going to get to go out. Make sure you put your cat in a harness. Don't just put a leash on his collar because he is sure to slip out of the collar. Take your time training him but don't make him stay on leash for long. Just keep trying a couple minutes at a time until he gets the idea that it's not supposed to be torture.

It's okay if your cat is an indoor cat. It's safer for cats in most instances. Unless you have a fenced yard they can play in they risk being hit by cars or injured in fights with other pets in the area and catch dieseases like Feline AIDS.
Make a ledge where your cat can sit by a window and see outside. Open the window for fresh air - don't open it in the winter, it gets cold. Well, at least it does where i live. You cat will love watching everything outside; the busier the street, the better. The more windows, the better.

My mom goes for a walk every night and my cat follows her, although the cat only goes so she can roll around on the ground in front of my mom to try to make her scratch her belly. Cats are probably difficult to leash train, so if you can and the cat wants to go out, maybe you can let it out in the yard or something. He'll come back home

I try this almost regular with my kitten Jemima. because of the fact she is an indoor cat and gets labored up often times i detect its a stable thank you to do away along with her pent up potential. constructive, some human beings could seem at you like your loopy, yet i've got stumbled on maximum anybody is acutally somewhat involved. Get a cat harness (or a small canines one) and a leash and placed them on your cat, and for the 1st week in simple terms enable him get accustom to them. Then start up taking him for short walks, commencing off on 2-5minutes and then progressively increasing the quantity of time you walk him. maximum indoor cats do get somewhat worried while they first go outdoors, because of the fact there are an incredible type of smells and noises that they get crush. Take a plastic bag full of treats and supply him some each now and back to inspire him, and make constructive that once the walk you supply him various interest and compliment. he gets used to it lots swifter if he's associating it with stable issues. quickly adequate your cat would be walking thankfully on the side of you ^_^ stable luck!

Yes, you are not the only one I know who walks a cat. The problem is getting the cat to accept the cat leash. And then there is the attitude you have to develop, re: be prepared to climb posts and trees. You see, when someone or something spooks cats, they often decide to climb up to "safer" places.

you can walk but it may try to get out of a harness, do not use a collar leash they tend not to like that

if your concerned about fresh air check your air filters in your furance, do not smoke or let anyone smoke in the house, keep windows open occasionally

if the air is good for you, the air is good for the cat
