White- go for the lake house look- makes room nicer.

I would paint it black or a dark chocolate brown. White will look too generic and blue won't stand out enough.

I like the picture, in my head, of crisp white. There are any number of possibilities and it just depends on what you and he like the look of. Look through magazines and see what appeals to both of you, but especially him. Happy painting!

A bright bottle green would be cool, or maybe a toned down orange (just a hint of brown to make it more neutral).

it may sound crazy but i think blue goes great with yellow, since they're opposites in the color scheme, but white would be a more classic look

I would say that it should compliment his wall color as well as his carpet. I don't think that you could go wrong with a light grey. Very light.
