Al-Qaida in Iraq warned Pope Benedict XVI on Monday that its war against Christianity and the West will go on until Islam takes over the world

"You infidels and despots, we will continue our jihad (holy war) and never stop until God avails us to chop your necks and raise the fluttering banner of monotheism, when God's rule is established governing all people and nations," said the statement by the Mujahedeen Shura Council, an umbrella organization of Sunni Arab extremist groups in Iraq.

Al-Qaida in Iraq said Muslims would be victorious and addressed the pope as "the worshipper of the cross" saying "you and the West are doomed as you can see from the defeat in Iraq, Afghanistan, Chechnya and elsewhere. ... We will break up the cross, spill the liquor and impose the 'jizya' tax, then the only thing acceptable is a conversion (to Islam) or (being killed by) the sword."

I actually just read this article before I read your question. I completely disagree. I am a Muslim and those statements are among the most offensive statements that I have EVER read!!!

istvan_c had it right with the passage he quoted from the Qur'an. That's what I believe. It's very sad that so many forget the importance of this passage and the one that states that there is no compulsion in religion. Believe me when I tell you that anyone who makes statements such as those in that article and terrorize and murder are the REAL infidels.

This is what happen when the Quran is interpreted out of context. Each verse comes with an explanation in the sunnah (Traditions of the prophet).

There are criteria to be met before a war can be wage against the unbelievers. But Al-Qaeda disregards the criteria and engage their own war. Al-Qaeda does not represent Islam and the voice of Muslim, and I wholeheartedly am against them. Al-Qaeda and the like are the real Muslims number One enemy. They had destroy Islam.

Unfortunately, there's no popular channel for the moderate Muslim to voice their opinion. They will never be heard.

I am not Muslim, but this is a public site and when asked not to look, well, of course we will. Note well, please that these are the threats of an extremist sect within wider Islam. This is not the Islam that we see around us, a religion of beauty and colour. It is so very sad that this conflict has come to this and we all must pray that it will come to an end. There is, however, a greater risk from another extremist group in the US. This group calls itself the 'government.'

i'm, sorry, i'm not a muslim, but don't you guys worry for this? i mean this is crazy, you guys claim that islam is about 'peace' but really, i don't see it. All i see is anger/hatred, there is no forgiveness and love, and it looks like another Hitler, its like there's only one 'winner' it must be islam or else you die. Thats kinda crazy right?
