Instead of using money I don't have to buy a hair bleaching kit and some Manic Panic or going to a salon, would it be possible to dye my hair using some peroxide and a colored tea, such as rasberry? Would the tea even show up, or would I need to mix it with conditioner in the way kool-aid is used as a dye? I know I've heard about peroxide making your hair fall out and also turning it yellow, but I actually dyed a small lock of hair using peroxide. My hair didn't fall out and it was more golden than yellow. Starting color is golden brown, could that perhaps be why it wasn't yellow?
I'm not a child, so before you tell me to "stop, put the bottle back in the cabinet"...don't. Just trying to experiment with my hair, I don't even like it so I could care less if I damage it.

I'm looking for something a little more drastic, not just a hint of red in my hair. I have black growing out on the bottom from previous dyes and I tried testing the peroxide on that but it never changed it. Would actual Clorox work better on the black instead of peroxide?

If you mean you'd like to use peroxide from the bottle that you would use for antiseptic (the big brown bottle from the drugstore), it would probably take a lot of dunks to get it very light. It would probably just pick up a bit of color, and possibly make your hair brassy. I don't think that stuff has much strength to do a lot of damage, it would just be a lengthy process with weak results. As for using tea to dye it, you'd have to steep it as bold as possible, and even then it would rinse out after a couple of days. Kool-aid mixed into a paste with water will give you a brighter color. Try the whole process on a large piece and see what happens before you go for your whole head. :)

I know you don't want to hear this, but I really wouldn't try and mix your own hair dye. You say you don't care about damaging your hair - but it could be far worse than that - you could end up burning your skin, or going blind if you get the stuff in your eyes.
If you are trying to save money how about a coloured shampoo rather than a home dye kit - the red toned ones work quite well. Or the sachets that last three washes - Shaders and Toners - they're usually only a $ or two.
Or get some henna from The Body Shop - another cheap dye. Although bare in mind it's hard to shift that from the hair once it's in....

I have lightened my hair with straight peroxide, my hair is dark brown and the results are reddish brown, your need to apply it with a bottle with a nozzle tip. and it parted sections be sure start at the roots and comb it thru with a fine tooth comb for faster result blow dry. and keep applying until you bet the results you want in my experience it will never turn yellow, so if you wnat it ligher go to sally beauty for an in expensive treament you can do at home and yes you hair may be dry but it won't fall out .
PS i have short hair and i have even used Jloene cream bleach on sections but again my hair is dark so the result are more reddish brown

My friend also tried a lock and thought it looked nice but when she did her whole head the color was all uneven and her hair was SO damaged. It even felt rough. The thing about Kool Aid is it's only temporary. I did Kool Aid my self once. It lasted like 4 shampoos. But yousaid you don't even like your hair so do what you want LOL Hope I helped.

First and foremost, peroxide causes damage to your hair even when you mix it with tea or other non-chemical colors. That said, if you are serious about coloring your hair and want a gentle hair color, they are so many of those in the market that there is no need to be creative at home. The most gentle hair colors that I have tried, and I have tried them all, are Loreal Excellence and Garnier Nutrisse Cream.

The problem with peroxide is, it can burn your hair follicles. And that, my dear, will result in your hair growing thinner and thinner as you get older, eventually not growing at all and the follicle dies..... and then one day when you're about 29 you realize you can see all sorts of scalp through what used to be your golden brown hair that you stripped with peroxide and dyed with kool-aid.
But hey, go for it, what do I know?
You can always get micrografts, or wear hats, or keep your hair styled a certain way and pray it doesnt get windy or rainy.

I usto use peroxide in my hair every other weekend on the bi weeks I used Lemon Juice. I hope you relize that you have to be in the sun for this to work. If you can't be in the sun every weekend try putting the leomon juice in and blow drying your hair a couple times in a row.

Bleaching your hair is bad enough for it. If you have golden tones in your hair and the die it will turn yellow. you can buy somehting to pt in with your die so it doesn't do that. Go to a beauty suppy store.
