Blackouts, DUI's or other arrests when your drunk, or have you recently rolled your car or crashed it while you were drunk?
Spend all your money while you're out drinking, and surprised the next day?
Getting into fights?
do you piss your bed while you're passed out drunk?
Sleep with people you would normally think are undesirable?(Beer goggles)
Do you throw up more than once a week from drinking/
puke where you can't get to a toilet, like on the floor of your bar
or in your room?

These are the most obvious signs I can think of.
Others include- do you drink in the morning? Every morning?
Hard liquor first thing in the morning?
How many drinks a week. How many to get drunk?
Doctors will say 20 a week is a maybe, 30 your probably drinking too much. But hell if you're in college or something I see no reason why you cant have 60-70 drinks a week, just realize someday that won't be OK.
As for cutting back- you could try smoking a lot of weed. You'll be too stoned to want to drink a lot.
Or figure out why you drink so much.
If youre an alcoholic for gods sake go to AA, they'll save your *** for sure, but you better be a mess by the time you go there or you'll probably think you dont need them.

You know you're drinking too much when you have a feeling you might be, and when your loved ones tell you you have a problem. When you feel like you have to have one more to settle your nerves or help you deal with a problem.

There are many different ways to try to cut down and none of them work for everyone. You can try to find things to do that keep you from the environment you feel most comfortable drinking in, but that may mean a lot of changes - changes in friends, life style, where you go, etc. To do that, you need a support network. Or you can try to get a new network of people who share similar things you like to do that don't involve drinking. It really takes a new outlook and firm decision on your part, a commitment to it, if you will.

It's very commendable that you are considering it. Look around you and decide what's important to you. If drinking is interfering with your ability to nurture what matters most to you and damaging an important relationship, keep it in the top of your thoughts when you are in a situation where you want to drink. What do you want long-term - a failed life or a life-long companion?

Good luck to you and I hope you can make the right choice.

Well, you know you're drinking too much when you start talking out of the side of your neck, and the room starts spinning. As far as learning how to cut down, buy a smaller bottle!

how do you know? Hmm. do you remember what you did last night? If not find another hobby...whenever you feel like drinking "too much" get started with your new found friend...it could be anything i.e. cooking, friends, knitting, hiking, reading, sex, model airplanes, comic books, football, hunting, etc.
Not that this is a new idea but I wish you all the best.

you are drinking too much if you are drinking every day or every other day. It is normal to drink every other day but only one glass and it depends what you are drinking too.
WIne is fine every other day one glass or less. If its anything else once a week is enough.

If you hear yourself saying, I need a drink or feel that you need one. Remember this, you will never find your courage in a bottle.
