The most important part in your decision should be how much you can comfortably afford. It is never a good idea to buy more than you can comfortably afford. What you can afford includes your monthly payments, your Insurance payments, gasoline costs, and cost of regular maintenance.

The next important things should be reliability, dependability, and the resale value. Many people depend on their car to get them around, of course if they get into financial trouble, it's always nice to be able to get top dollar for the car if they need it.

I would say safety is the next concern the people should consider.

Comfort for the driver and his/her passengers. Making sure the seats are comfortable. Gauges are easy to read. Radio is easy to tune. Car accelerates at a comfortable pace. Brakes stop the vehicle and is confortable.

Then finally the appearance and sex appeal of the vehicle should be considered.

Value is always most important. If the vehicle has mileage under 100,000 for a 10 year old car, or averaging 10-15,000 per year, that is a safe range. Anything more than that is not a consideration and I will pass.

If buying a dealer car, I always find out possible warranties to back up the maintenance. If if qualifies for the best plan, then it must meet the highest mechanical standards...good enough for me!
