Well, Jesus did say things in the New Testament like that, but I think sometimes that it's easier for some people to repeat the same mantras to people over and over again rather than listening to what God is telling them in their hearts to say to people. But in my experience, there are all different kinds of Christians, it just depends on how they were raised, who they are. For instance, my grandmother, who is 83, will say things like that, but she is from a very old fashioned southern tradition of course, so I expect that from her and know that she loves me almost as much as God does. It just all depends on the person I guess. I try to be real, try to love people, try to laugh and hopefully make others laugh. I just try to be who God wants me to be and do my best, and I know He loves me just the way I am, as He loves all of us :)

You're right. But most religions are cults, specially in our eyes. I like what MorelOrel said about alter calls, and VQ was correct also. I plan on treating all religions as cults, and stay away from them all together. Good morning, Jim.

When you examine the belief, here are some things that stand out:
Chant the same prayers and phrases over and over.
All dress in a similar manner (Sunday best).
All led and enlightened by one charismatic leader (pastor)
Are very exclusionist (only they have the truth)
Are very seductive (accept the truth and your life will have
meaning)
Are controlling (you don't need to worry, the bible will tell you
everything you need to know)
And the kicker... many churches practice mass hypnosis in the form of "alter calls." (I had a CHRISTIAN psychology professor that believed this. The dim lights, low music, steady cadence of the speaker's voice... it's mass hypnosis).
So yeah, It all sounds very cult-like to me.

Because it is one, just like every other overly-fanatical, potentially-harmful religious cult out there, bent on controling its members through threats and manipulation.
If only they had stuck to the good teaching in the mythology, maybe the world would be a bit nicer to live in.

I think it's because some preachers attain cult leader-like status. Just look at Fred Phelps and some of the televangelists.

Because Christianity is a cult. It is a cult of Judaism, started by a troublemaker named Jesus. The fact that it has now become mainstream doesn't change the fact that they started out as Jews and just branched off.

lol good wording. Because they think that they are always right because they think that God is on their side. Again, GIAR Syndrome (God Is Always Right Syndrome)
