I've had several dogs with cataracts and they manage just fine. They need lights turned on for them at night when they're doing stairs, and they do stairs slower, you need to be careful to leave doors closed which should be closed, things like that, but the dogs cope really well. If you can afford the surgery and your vet thinks the risk to your dog is minimal, by all means do it, but it's not really necessary to your dog.

If you have the resources to spend on cataract surgery your canine friend will thank you. But most dogs do pretty well with decreasing sight in a familiar environment.

If you can afford it and love your puppy that much, then do it. If all his other medical issues are in check then he will probably really appreciate being able to see.

I would check with your vet on whether he/she feels that he can handle the operation and the anethesia (sp) well though.

My boxer is ten and my vet won't put her out unless it is life threatening because of the anethesia risks.

Good Luck

Ask the vet if he's able to undergo the surgery as he may be too old to be put under. Personally I wouldnt think twice about spending the money if the dog can handle it. You owe it to your best friend!!!

the 1st component I continuously think of of whilst an older canines who in no way had a difficulty is wetting their mattress is scientific. i could have a bloodwork up executed just to confirm. it may desire to easily be occurring mutually as your canines sleeps even though it may additionally be a UTI and prefer to rule that out. once you wash it, you are able to desire to combine in some Nature's Miracle to thoroughly eliminate the scent. once you're purely utilising usual laundry detergent or bleach, it is going to reinforce the scent and inspire the canines to pee in that comparable spot.

all the above answer are pretty good but just think about it, he is 10 yrs old, the operation could be harder for him than living with this handicap. Good luck in your decision.
