If you have asthma or allergies, then tiled/ hardwood floor is much more better for your health...

Besides, carpets trap dirt/ dust/ animal furs... Unless if you want to vacuum/ get it clean frequently, then it's up to you...

Tiles/ hardwood floor can be cleaned immediately if you see any stains/ dirt on it... Just mop/ wipe the floor & it so easy to clean... & if you choose the right design, then it will add more features to your home....

I work in construction and carpet is the best. Reason is hardwood floors can be damaged and warp a little more easy then if you have carpet. With carpet you have the padding that gets laid down first and can be glued or stapled to the floor. I would go with staples, just because it's easier to change the padding and carpet later on. Without carpet your floors can get scratched up if you move a couch around, forget your shoes on,many ways for that to happen. And once that happens you have to go through and sand it, then repoly it and so on and so forth so....ya carpet is much better for your floor

Carpeting is becoming something either limited to one small area or done away with altogether since so much is linked to the harmful outgasing of chemicals in the fibers.

Hardwood, though beautiful, is rather easily damaged. If you have dogs or children, hardwood is not a good idea. But, the next best thing, which is less expensive but looks just like real hardwood, is laminate flooring. I have it and I am very happy with it. I dust mop weekly and sponge mop monthly.

I love carpet!! Even if I would have hardwood floors I would still put large rugs down.
Hardwood floors make the house "echo" and seem cold and empty. There are always those little 'dust bunnies' everywhere no matter how often you clean.
Carpet is cozy and homey and warm for your feet to walk on. It just makes a place seem "lived in."

Hard wood floors hands down!
Carpeting is gross and discusting even if you have it professionally cleaned it will not be clean. We ripped out all the carpeting in the house because I kept getting sick from it.
It literally had a 1/2 inch of dirt under the pad and that was one day after having it professionally cleaned. You can only clean the surface of a carpet not through to the floor under it.
Carpeting also causes many illnesses because it harbors germs, bacteria, mold, mildew not to mention skin flakes, oil from the bottom of your feet, and any other thing floating through your home from dust to pet dander.
Go with hard wood floors for your health.

carpeting - i have had hardwood floors and hated them. They are too much work to clean and show dirt way too easy. I'm never having anything but carpeting when I have a house of my own.

I would have to say hard wood...for the cleanliness factor.

Carpet is soo nasty. It collects all kinds of stuff and the oils from the bottom of your feet. And don't think that shampooing the carpet works...it just turns that carpet mat into a big 'ol sponge for mold.

I live on a tropical island and carpet totally brings down the value of a place.

hardwood floor, because it's easier to clean.
carpets you have to do a big cleaning every once in awhile, because if you don't, there are going to be all different kinds of bacterias, and it's not good for the body.

I just ordered carpet. I love walking barefoot on a soft carpet. I have had wood floors. They were cold and hard to keep clean. They also turned color when I covered parts with area rugs.

It depends what you want it for...
nothing beats carpet for walking on with clean feet
nothing beats hardwood for WOW factor when selling your house
