What is the difference between a memoir and an autobiography

i would guess that a memoir is like a story telling about a certain time in your life where it changed your life forever depending on it being good or bad where autobiography is like facts about your life from when you were born up untill you wrote it and all kinds of things that happend, memoir seems more personal and life changing.

I think they're basically the same - though a memoir is more like a record of events, whereas an autobiography is a person's (life) story.
