Jesus forgives us in all things, but can we forgive ourselves? Isn't that what he wants for us? Happiness I believe can only be attained when we can forgive ourselves as well as others. The only reason we cannot forgive others is because we couldn't forgive ourselves if we did the same as them.

Yes, I believe we should be able to forgive ourselves if we are truly sorry for our sins against others. I am a fairly good person. Never hurt anyone intentionally, try to help others & animals when I can, but I still felt guilty that I wasn't there when my mother died. I forgive those who have wronged me, but I won't forget & let them do it again.

People do more damage to themselves than Jesus would ever do in the course of forgiveness. Guilt is what drives us at those times. Jesus forgives from the moment we ask for it because He is unconditional in His love. He does not throw it up in our face later, does not use it to further His own motives. But we are the ones to drive ourselves insane in guilt over trying to forgive ourselves for something we did or someone else's doings.

The way I see it...if it is going to cause guilt over doing it, dont do it. We live our lives according to the choices we make.

Jesus gave the holy spirit to his disiples so that they could forgive others. We are also given the holy spirit diring first Comunion and first Confesion. thus we also have the ability to forgive, but preists still can create more of a realiefe for a person. If youve done one of the deadly sins Id recomend seeing a priest.

part of the difficulty in forgiving ourselves is that we re-hash the situation and kick ourselves for not making a better decision at the time. Then we must live with the consequences of that bad choice.
so you are right, if we could forgive ourselves quicker we would be happier

You should be able to forgive yourself. It may be hard, but it's true. You can't be happy unless you can forgive yourself and others. It's true for any religion. Forgiveness is a big part of any religion or belief.

I can forgive others and I have forgiven others also. It makes me feel good to know that I have forgiven somebody. It is a weight lifted off me shoulders.

Refusal to forgive yourself is refusing to acknowledge what Jesus did. He died in our place for our sins. If we cannot forgive these sins, we are saying what He did was all in vain.
