I think that people who say "the devil made me do it" should stop taking sin so lightly. Satan is a crafty one out to win as many souls as he can, but we all have the gift of free will. We can choose between God and satan. Unfortunately, we are human and we are weak and will give in to temptation many times a day. The only way to break the hold satan has on you is to pray more.

Actually, going around and tempting people is pretty much what Satan and his minions do. The more people they can get to "sin", the more miserable they can make people and the more company they can have in hell. Also makes God pretty unhappy too. So why doesn't God do something about it, since he is so all powerful? Damn good question. You'd think he would want himself and his people to be happy and lead good lives; instead he just comes off as petty and sadistic.

In ancient Jewish tradition Satan is simply an angel doing the work that God assigned to Satan to do.
The word Satan means challenger. With the idea of Satan challenging us, or tempting if you will. This description sees Satan as the angel who is the embodiment of man's challenges. This idea of Satan works closely with God as an integral part of Gods plan for us. His job is to make choosing good over evil enough of a challenge so that it becomes clear to us that there can be only one meaningful or logical choice.
Contrast this to Christianity, which sees Satan as God's opponent. In Jewish thought, the idea that there exists anything capable of setting itself up as God's opponent would be considered polytheistic or setting up the devil to be an equally powerful polarity to god or a demigod.
Oddly, proof for The Christian satan/devil mythology is supposedly found in the ancient Jewish texts that were borrowed to create the bible. One can’t help but wonder how Christians came up with such a fantastically different interpretation of Gods assistant Satan in their theology.
Other hints about Satan’s role in human relations can be seen if you look at the name Lucifer. It meaning in the original tongue translates as Light bearer or light bringer. Essentially the bringer of enlightenment. The temptations of the Satan idea bring all of us eventually into Gods light. Hardly the Evil entity of Christian mythology.

Satan is the instigator of all things wrong and he laughs and takes pride everytime someone sins, especially Christians. Satan tries to hinder Christians as much as possible so Christians will no longer want to follow God because of all of the bad things that happen to them.

Yes, the devil does the tempting. But he cannot force you to do anything you don't want to do. They blame the devil because they think it gets them out of trouble.

We were given free will. Satan can tempt us as he did Jesus, but the decision is yours.
