Did Jesus have a choice to die for us, or did he have no choice in the matter?

VQ, I asked this questions to Christians only, because they are the main ones who believe in Jesus. It would be stupid of me to ask a Atheist or a Muslium this question, don't you think? And why do you ask questions on peoples questions when they have no way to answer you?

Does Jesus posses freewill?

Well first, all of God's creation has free will, they all have, including us, the freedom to choose whether or not to serve God or not!

Jesus had the same choice, do you know why?

Well first the scriptures highlight an important point and that God cannot be tempted and God does not lie.

Jesus on the other hand experienced a situation that he could have made a choice...

Well to let you know the situation, Jesus is just finished being baptized by John the Baptist and he off walking off into the wilderness by himself for 40 days and 40 nights fasting...

Then something happens....

"Then Jesus was led by the spirit up into the wilderness to be tempted by the Devil. After he had fasted forty days and forty nights, then he felt hungry. Also, the Tempter came and said to him: 'If you are a son of God, tell these stones to become loaves of bread." But in reply he said: "It is written, 'Man must live, not on bread alone, but on every utterance coming forth through Jehovah's mouth." Then the Devil took him along into the city, and he stationed him upon the battlement of the temple and said to him: "If you are a son of God, hurl yourself down; for it is written, 'He will give his angels a charge concerning you, and they will carry you on their hands, that you may at no time strike your foot against a stone.'" Jesus said to him: "Again it is written, 'You must not put Jehovah your God to the test." Again the Devil took him along to an unusually high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory, and he said to him: All these things I will give you if you fall down and do an act of worship to me. " Then Jesus said to him: "Go away, Satan! For it is written, 'It is Jehovah your God you must worship, and it is to him alone you must render sacfed service.' - Matthew 4:1-10

Did you notice what happened to Jesus when he was being tempted by Satan, and that is Satan kept giving Jesus a choice to choose if he wanted to test God and own the kingdoms that Satan owned..

But as the scriptures points out, Jesus did make a decision, and that decision was that he was not going to disobey his heavenly Father and rebel but remain loyal and only serve him...

So yes Jesus does have freewill, just like the other angels in heaven and humans here on the earth...

Jesus said, "The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many" (Matt. 20:28). He came to give his life, to die, and his death would purchase salvation for others. This was the primary reason he came to earth. His blood was poured out for others (Matt. 26:28).Jesus warned his disciples that he would suffer and die, but they didn’t seem to believe it.It had all been according to God’s plan: Herod and Pilate did only what God "had decided beforehand should happen" (Acts 4:28). In the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus asked if there might be some other way, but there was none (Luke 22:42). His death was necessary for our salvation. Yes He Chose to die for us!! ( even those that do not believe in Him)

Yes Jesus most definatly had a choice! In the Garden of Gethsemane He sweat blood and prayed in agony asking God for another way, yet His love for all of us carried Him through. He had a choice. He could have chose to let us just be damned without a savior, or save us and bring us home. He chose the latter.

Yes, Jesus chose to die for us. He could have chosen to let us all go to hell, but He loved us so much that he want through all the pain and suffering so that we could go to heaven. Jesus prayed in the garden that there might be another way, but there needed to be a sinless sacrifice, and that was Jesus.

Yes, I believe so. In Hebrews 5:8 the author indicates that Christ learned obedience through the things which He suffered. To be obedient indicates that there is a choice to be disobedient. That indicates free will.

Jesus had a choice. In the Garden of Gethsemane, when He was praying, he prayed, "Not my will, but your will be done." Also, He had told his disciples that He could have called down 10,000 angels and they would have come down and fought for him. But, because of his love for us, and because he knew that we could not save ourselves, he willing allowed himself to be crucified on the cross for our sins, giving us a way to get to God.

Why would you specify Christians only? Are members of other religions not allowed to have opinions on these matters? Shouldn't you want us to respond and swayed by the answers others type? I don't think you are sending a very loving and caring message by excluding everyone who doesn't believe the way you do.

Absolutely. He most definitely had a choice. But you must remember that Christ was born perfect and blameless, His ultimate will and desire was to do what His father(God) wanted of Him. And the only way that we were to be saved is if He took upon Himself the "sins of the world." Thus He wanted to intercede for us. Hope that makes sense. :-)

I believe that He had free will. He died because He felt that's what He needed to do.

Yes, I believe that He did because He could have decided not to be sacrificed. The Word says that He could have called up on legions of angels to rescue Him.
