Night shade tail lights.....
lights that are the color black instead of red. except for when you brake it turns red...

are these illegal to drive with in california??

i have fought several tickets regarding this subject in CA. from the vehicle code, your lights (front and rear) must be approved by the department of transportation (DOT) and by the society of automotive engineers (SAE). if you look carefully at the plastic lenses and see the SAE and DOT numbers, they should be fine.

basic rule of thumb:

front: clear (white) or amber (yellow) lights only
rear: red for turn, parking and stop; clear (white) for reverse; yellow (amber) for turn

If they are red when on, I think you are OK. Check with the CHP.
