in my opinion, a circus is not an appropriate outing for a baby.
look at it this way - you are spending money on a ticket, and the baby will likely never ever remember it.
but ultimately it's your choice.

We took my daughter the the circus at 18 mths. She loved it. But she had a very well attention spam and was able to sit still during most of it. It also depends on the circus! If it's one that continues to change, with lights and different scenes, than it will keep there interest longer.
And you will never know until you try it. You could have the best experience for your child at that age or you could lose a little money because you had to leave. Which would you rather have?!?!?!?

not many 18 month olds can sit still....but kids are all different. some babies like to sit on laps, and some babies do watch things. other babies are more curious about the straw in your soda cup or to climb on an empty seat or run around. so it just depends on your child. my daughter at 18 months was so much different than my son at 18 months. my daughter was more content with lights and things going on...and my son has to TOUCH everything. my husband took our daughter to the circus at 3 yr old. our son was 19 months at the time--and we decided to skip it with him and will try taking him this november. he said our daughter got bored after the first 40 mins. i think the whole show was 90 mins or maybe 2 hrs. take your baby to a movie and see how that goes.

i 've never met an 18 month old who was able to sit still too long at ANYTHING. I would say maybe at least 2 1/2 for the circus.. 3 is even better.

i doubt any child under 5 would be able to tolerate a circus but all kids are different
if the child cant sit through a disney movie then a circus would not be a good idea
also alot of children seem to be a little scared of the clowns, hell i know i am, lol

The won't be able to sit still but would be entertained by it. Do use caution however, as some children are terrified of clowns, or loud noises.
We took our son to some Olympic events when he was small. We took a small car for him to play with and he was more interested in watching the event on the large screen TV than the actual athletes. We also took him to live outdoor concerts.

My son is 2-1/2 and we're attempting Disney on Ice with him in October, but not counting on anything to go well. There's only one way to find out, and that's to just do it. I personally would not take an 18 mo old. They just don't understand yet that they have to sit still at certain times.

at that age the only thing my son would sit still for was the Law and Order opening sequence. At that age, the child might be too easily decided to try to actually want to get closer, and might be freaked out by the clowns.

I took mine at that age and to a football game (Dallas Cowboys)
But every child is different and they can be different every event you take them to......I have found out in an environment like a circus....the attention span is longer...try it...I would. Just be careful around the animals!!
