We are going to be in Colorado from January 22 to Feb. 5. We like historic, art, and cultural sites and events. Does any one know any good small private cabins/ homes for rent in the Breckenridge and Vail area as well as the Winter Park area? Also does anyone know of any really good restaurants in the same areas? Thank you for any help.

Central City/Blackhawk are great sites for both history and fun. They have modern casino/hotels and the mining history is top-notch. To get to the mining history, travel through Blackhawk and into Central City.

Breckenridge is by far the nicest "ski" town. You mentioned not into skiing, but it is still the nicest atmosphere of Vail/Keystone/Aspen/Winterpark.

Boulder has many art museums and cultural events all year long. It is a "quaker" town and really is culturally diverse.

We visited Vail for Thanksgiving once. We didn't hit the slopes, either, but we found all kinds of things to keep us busy. We went to a spot where you can see TONS of elk come out at dusk. It was awesome! We also snowmobiled in the mountains and went horseback riding (have you ever done that in snow? It's great!). We toured all kinds of little towns with quaint shops and restaurants. They have neat mining towns and lots of antique shops. We even found a place to stay that had a kind of dude-ranch feel to it. Sorry I don't have clearer details but it was a good 7 years ago. Hard to remember. I would definitely research it on line. Have a great time and CONGRATULATIONS!!

If there are any hot springs in the area, you should visit one of the spas. Nice and relaxing. Why are you going to a ski area in the winter if you don't like skiing? You should be going to the Caribbeans or something.

Just make sure that you have snow tires , and also chains. There are some very dangerous roads in the mountains, thousand-foot cliffs and very few guard rails. In some places, it is illegal to drive without tire chains.
I want you both to get back safely. Write me when you do, and I will suggest dozens of things to do in Colorado in the summer.
