Rabbi!! I'm telling you this right now!! the crazy right wing Christians in this country are exploiting the Jews and Muslims in the middle east for their own agenda!!! they want Jerusalem, they have prophecies in the bible about Jesus assembling a kingdom in Jerusalem. the evangelical movement in the US is gonna cause a lot of troubles. they started to convert Jews to Christians now. the new movement judu/christians as they like to call it or Jews for Jesus.
you guys should be aware of this and try to stop them before they take over the world. the neocon agenda is to suck down all the resources in the world and take over Jerusalem.

Most religions are soaked in blood that's how they control their flocks, our biggest problem in the world today is our short memories, James town, Waco, Haily's comet suicides, to name a few, all registered religions that have committed atrocities towards their own people, I do not think Christians are hate full people, there are those that claim Christianity but are not really it is just a front for them, all religions could be put on the back burner as far as I'm concerned because it robs the people of their logic and common sense.

What an excellent question.I've often pondered the same thing. I believe that for the most part people are sheep.Just led around by what ever man happens to be in the pulpit that sounds good to them. Not taking the time to study out the scriptures for themselves. One who is serious and dedicated to there faith will spend more time in the word and not on so many other things that cry for our attention these days.If they'd only realize that it was by the scriptures that they were saved and by the scriptures will they get and remain strong and full of the love of which you speak.

For myself, the answer lies in a quotation from Carl Jung:
"Religion is a defense against religious experience."
Which I have taken to mean that religions tend to be a kind of condensation into society of the profound spiritual experiences of a few. The structure of a religion, the religious practises tend to codify and even fossilize the experiences and understandings of the core group that "founded" a particular religion.
God may be. God may desire that we love one another. God may desire that we not got to war or kill or perpetrate injustice. But God is not the religion that claims belief in God.
The religion is a human construct. A very human thing.
And humans are, is is fairly universally acknowledged, fallible.
Which means that whatever the God or Gods, whatever the religion, it is entirely possible that we will twist and bend and pervert the "highest truths" to suit our situations.
And out of that we get wars and justifications for wars with both sides often claiming "God is on our side."
I don't believe it's a problem unique to Christianity. I've found injunctions to love, compassion, mercy, peace and justice in the writings of many religions. Christian, Jewish, Islamic, Buddhist.
And I know of people in history of all those faiths who have initiate war and other cruelties and injustices on others, sometimes even of the same religion.
Both the Protestants and the Catholics of Europe in the 30 Years War were under the same "Greatest Commandment" to "Love God and Love your neighbor as you love yourself." And yet they pursued great slaughter and havoc on each other and many innocent bystanders.
That same command from God can be found in the Torah and yet other parts of the Bible (Joshua comes to mind) describe the same God that commanded to "love" in Deuteronomy also commanding to "leave no living thing".
I suspect that there were "good Buddhists" on both sides when Japan invaded Korea in the 16th Century of the common era, and good Buddhists who helped in the siege of Amakusa and killed the Christians there.
Why is the particular religion of Christianity so blood soaked? The simplest answer lies in the same texts as the command to love: the evil I would not do I do, and the good I would do, I do not.
That is part of the human condition. I do not excuse the conduct of those who say they are Christian. I cannot excuse my own conduct in lesser sins. Yet I would say that such conduct where it conflicts with the good ideas of a religion, in that very conflict and contradiction is the reality of our humanity.
In the ink of blood is that contradiction written large.

You bring up a good point, somethng that most people tend to forget. It's the selective memory that is usually the downfall or at the very least part of the blame. Every religion has good and bad, without it there would be no appreciating one or the other. This is a life lesson that most people never learn. Without knowing pain and sorrow, you can't fully appreciate love. Without knowing what it is like to go without food for a few days, you can never really appreicate the taste of freshly creamed butter on a warm piece of bread.
I am waxing poetic here ....

Rabbi, Thank you for offering your observations. I consider myself to be a follower of Christ's teachings ( Christ-ianity ) but not in the conventional ways. I am often embarassed and ashamed to be named-among many so-called "christians" precicely because of the narrow-minded bigotry, prejudice, hatred, and violence that is often promulgated in the name of Christianity.
To me, Christianity is simply the "path" that led ME to a personal spiritual awakening and an awareness of God. However, I have sometimes enjoyed a greater spiritual unity with people of other faiths and beliefs, including: Moslems, Hindus, Athiests, Agnostics, AND Jews. I believe God looks upon the thoughts and intentions of a man's heart, and thus determines spiritual relationship... rather than defining such by some ritualistic practice of any certain doctrine, creed, religion, denomination, or lack thereof.
I have known Athiests and Wiccans who have shown more love and compassion for their fellow man than many Christians demonstrate. Even Jesus encountered his strongest opposition from the (supposedly) religious leaders of his time. Ignorance comes in all shapes and sizes, faiths and religions...

What can I add to your wise information. Not much.
Christianity certainly does have a history "stained with blood." We try to forget our history, at our own detriment.
And true Christianity is a light for all the world. It is not the only light, or necessarily the best (although it is for me). But when truly practiced, it brings compassion for the poor, strength to the needy.
Thank you for your question/information.
peace
BTW: My wife and I honeymooned in Ireland. Wonderful country/people!

Most Christians seem to think they are perfect, therefore, they can cast the first stone. There are some on this forum, however, who actually understand that Christianity is not perfect, and has a past. I just wish others would see that all religions at one point have been very violent. It does not mean the religion is wrong, just that none is perfect, and they have no right to judge another religion.

What God chose to do in Old Testament times was and is to teach those who refused His deity a lesson. What God did then and does now is certainly no different than what Allah is now doing, or is this Allah's doing? Maybe it's God's way of once again teaching a lesson to those refusing His deity again. I don't question God's reasoning because He does not reason out things as they happen. He knew from the beginning this would happen. Soaked in blood? Could this possibly be mans fault and not God's?

you do no longer prefer women folk to have administration over their very own bodies! Wow how precisely could you administration a women folk's physique? If she replaced into pregnant and did no longer prefer to have the toddler could you lock her up until she gave delivery? i think of you took this somewhat too far. it is purely insane. whilst are you human beings going to provide up on gay difficulty. you're no longer likely to alter the way human beings are born and in accordance to you God creates each and every thing so he created homosexuals for a reason and it extremely is in all probability the reason. we could see what number Christians will settle for homosexuals or bypass aganist God and banish them. God creates all impressive and loves all. i do no longer think of he could be very pleased with all the so called believers impressive now. extremely of attempting to make gay human beings bypass away you are able to desire to be asking yourselves how you are able to become a extra constructive Christain. quite i do no longer think of you are able to desire to spend all you time attempting to tell God he replaced into incorrect for coming up homosexuals. the place did they arrive from if he did no longer create them? Is there an answer for that one. He created them purely like he created those that would turn against him and those human beings could be you. Get a grip and enable the gay component bypass. how are you able to choose once you're instructed to no longer. Do you human beings purely %. and choose what you prefer to believe and does it make you sense sturdy by letting all people be attentive to that homosexuals are going to hell. You Christians have some kind of administration matters you are able to desire to artwork on
