Dear Awesome student,

You ask an excellent question about popular Catholic saints. There are many to read about. Some of those who have been canonized most recently are especially popular. Father Maxmillian Kolbe, who died in a Nazi concentration camp after volunteering to take the death sentence for another inmate who had a large family, comes to mind. Another fascinating saint is Father Padre Pio of Italy who was a mystic. Saint Marie Faustina is another "modern day" saint who is responsible for "The Chaplet of Divine Mercy" devotion. She was from Poland and was held in special regard by the late Pope John Paul II. Because of her, the Catholic Church celebrates Mercy Sunday--which is the Sunday after Easter. (Her diary is fascinating reading!)

Sometimes opportunities we are given in life don't always seem like fun! While you might not see your Catholic education as a blessing right now, I am confident that as time passes you will find your time in your school valuable in many ways--and someday you will thank those who are making the gift of Catholic education possible for you.

As Mother Angelica of EWTN television says, "We are all called to be great saints...don't miss the opportunity!" Keep your heart open to the blessings in your life!

Hope this helps! Good luck with your project and your Faith Journey!
