i was interested in an accounting program at a college. the only problem i saw was that i have to take calculus in my first year. the highest possible math i can take in high school is pre calculus. would it be too hard to take college level calculus after only going up to high school pre calculus?

I take accounting now. When I was in highschool I took a precalc/trig class. It's not a requirement at my university to take calculus for accounting, but all the people I know who take clac say it's easy (and they're not exactly Harvard material), so you should do just fine. You don't use complicated math almost at all in accounting. On the first day our prof said "You'll pretty much only need to know four functions, +, -, *, and if you really want to get fancy, /." Now I go to a really good school, so it's not like our curriculum is dumbed-down at all. I'll stop babbling now, but you should do just fine!!! Good luck!

If you live in Florida, check out http://www.keisercollege.edu/ they have an accounting program. You do not have to learn calculus for their accounting classes. You will learn one subject at time. You will have at the max. of 12 hours a month for each class. You do not even have to start when their semester starts. Which the classes are either start at 9 to 1 or 6:30 to 10:30 3 on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.

College is for learning NEW things, not rehashing what you learned in HS.

Will it be too hard? Who can tell? Some people function well at a certain level but can't handle the next step. However, if you understand Pre-Calc, you should have little difficulty in college.

One of the best methods of study in college is group study, where several people in a class get together and go over the class work and assignments. It help to build friendships too.

Good luck.

Well, you would have to try it to find out. And whether you are successful would deal with factors such as having a good teacher and how much work you are willing to put into the class. You most likely can pull it off. Just make sure you really do well in math this year.

no.....but you need to get a feel for your classes in college by meeting with an advisor there....
Calculus in your freshman year is odd....what about statistics and college algebra? Get an advisor in the Department that you plan to graduate from .......Or see The Arts and Sciences Department for academic counseling.
