A fellow catholic and I were discussing a hindu woman that asked if i wanted to get together.
I think I'm too old (35, divorced, no kids) to just "date" for fun, so I said no.
I couldn't ever imagine giving up my faith, so I turned her down.
Do you think this was right or wrong?

The first marriage was annulled, and I could see a protestant, or some other christian faith, but not give it up entirely, no way.

I wouldn't turn my back on my faith in Jesus Christ if it meant I had to be isolated from the presence of all people for the rest of my life. The Bible plainly teaches that a believer is not to be "unequally yoked" to unbelievers.

A person can date and even marry someone of a different religion without giving up their own. You can stay a Catholic even if you do not marry a Catholic.
However, if you are divorced and your marriage was recognized by the Catholic Church, then you cannot marry anyone and be a good Catholic without first finding out if the first marriage was invalid (an annullment).

If in your heart you cannot change your faith, because it will take you away from the God you follow, then you did the right thing.

That said, the Hindu religion is a beautiful one. It is entirely possible that dating a kind Hindu woman might bring you closer to God.

Gandhi was of course a Hindu, but he studied/practiced Islam and Christianity (some Hindus claimed he was a closet Christian). And he was better for it.

All the best.

You were right in doing so. Never question your faith. The bible encourages us to marry in our same faith. She might have been a sweetheart of a woman, but could really be strong in her faith, as you seem to be in yours. It probably would have only created problems for you in the end, and especially if you were to have had children together. I hope you do find that some one special that is out there only for you. Good Luck and God Bless.

Whats more important...your faith or a woman? Your faith will make you happy forever...a woman cant do this.

BUT i do see hope. If you really want to date her..ask her to become Catholic. You could look at this as an oppurtunity to bring someone to Jesus!!

God bless

I belong to all that is called in the holy name of the the great truth The most wonderful thing to do is to fulfill the word of GOD ,and make known that God is the only true living God ,that all of mankind comes to answer to ,what have you done before the LORD,no secret is hidden it will be all revealed on your last day.No word of lie,two seconds to midnight, I will a holy will onto your spirit inside your soul,by giving your spirit the knowledge of 180 ways to become most blessed. But as for the clowns and jokers I will leave on their plate 180 ways why they are cursed.

Atheists live with christians and other people mix religions all the time. Real faith means seeing through the differences and accepting them and not making the 'form' so special.

I think you did what was best for you. I don't think it was close minded at all. If your not interested in marrying this person for what ever reason, and you don't want to date for fun, then you made the right decision.

If your faith was true nothing could make you give it up, and if your relationship was true you would not be asked to do such a thing.

If you gave up your faith then it was all "bull" and not a real faith to begin with.Remember Jesus said "Whoever puts people before me is not worthy of me"(paraphrased)
