My child is six years old, and cannot take a shower or brush his teeth without playing the entire time. The only time he will do it is if we stand there the entire time. Is there any way to get him to stop playing and do what he's supposed to do?

Try using a timer and make a competition out of it. Start with a decent amount of time that allows for a bit of goof off time. The next night say " you did it in 14 minutes last night, i bet you can't do it in 12 tonight , " and so on. Another way to approach it is offer up a reasonable amount of time and for every minute they go over it they lose that time on something (TV time , or earlier to bed.) We have a 7 &10 year old and i know where you are coming from. For us it works to have them compete against each other to see who can be fastest. Gooooood Luck!

Please, please, please email me when you find out how to make this stop. My boys are forever messing around when doing anything they should be doing.
