For Kittyrogers - wow, what insightful and incredibly helpful comments! How do you constru this as 'personal chatting'? This is a valid question, so perhaps you can spew your venom at someone else. I know your style - I've seen it before and you are a disgrace to this forum.

I don't know how expensive these were but we just went to wedding a few weeks ago and the favor was a shot glass personalized with their names & date around a heart. Everyone thought it was the greatest idea.
We just used it this past weekend at a party and it made me smile and think of the couple each time I used it. They wrapped it in netting and tied it with a bow.
Two other good ideas I've seen were a packet of wildflower seeds at a fall harvest wedding and a fan (japanese hand type) at a summer wedding where it was very hot. That came in handy there and I still carry it in my purse each summer.

Wow...not sure where Kitty came up with the idea that this falls into the "chatting" category...Whatever. It's also not necessarily a no-brainer, since there are sooooo many options out there!
Anyway, one of the ideas we've been kicking around for my daughter's wedding is small photo frames. I know this is not a new idea, and can get expensive - but we're thinking of using these as the name cards for the pre-arranged seating. Each person will find their name in the frame, at their seat.
I also really love the concept of seeds. I think this really does a good job of representing the beginning of your new life together. You could get packets of seeds of the same variety and/or color that you have in your bouquet. I also had a friend who gave redwood saplings to everyone, which I thought was cool. I think this is also the type of thing that everyone can enjoy...it won't be like the pack of matches I am afraid to use because it has Tony & Christy's names on it, but instead something we can all look at later, and say, "Look at the beauty that Joan & Tom's wedding brought to the world".

I gave this answer to someone else earlier hopefully it works for you ...
This is going to sound funny but it is the best Idea I've ever seen... Betas. They are pretty fish and you could get them to match your colors if you really wanted to. They put them out on the table and let eveyone take one home. This reception only had like 120 people. Maybe if you are going to have more then try a fish that is cheaper. You could put them in a small bowl and at the end of the night they have a favor that will last a while. I'm sure you could make up a little poem to tie to the bowl. and if you shop in bulk for the fish and the bowls it should be pretty cheap. Get plastic bowls though, if they want a better bowl they can buy one

i've got seen each and every thing from a bottle of liqueur to somewhat ornamental glass pots with scented beads and such. although, i discover that maximum favours are no longer used, thrown out or eaten and forgotton. i've got been to three weddings the place they have executed a donation extremely than favours and each centred visitor gets a printed card or scroll of paper with a customised message from the bride and groom putting forward chich initiating or charity they donated to on behalf of the travelers. case in point, maximum cancers analyze, and so on. a minimum of you be attentive to the money truthfully went to sturdy use and as a centred visitor, I rejoice with the gesture better than a figurine or decoration. exceptionally simply by fact maximum of folk are tormented by those ailments and such the two rapidly or no longer rapidly by pals and kinfolk. i think of its a captivating gesture and your human beings can shop that piece of paper and be attentive to that it has a selection of of meaning in the back of it. you are able to continuously connect somewhat sachet with some goodies on the part.

Have you checked Ebay? I found these really cute favors when I wasn't even looking for them. They're really cheap too. (See link)

Or the other thing I've seen recently and wished I'd seen before I got married was they had wine glasses that looked very similar to champange flute engrave with the bride & groom's names & the year they were married. Then they also used them for the champange toast.
Hope this helps! Good luck!

for my wedding i went to the Dollar Store and bought a bunch of small glass candleholders and votive candles. Then, get a sparkly marker that writes on glass and write "Wedding of ___ and ___" and the date on each one. Wrap in tissue and tie with a ribbon.
also, if you have a color printer, buy a few sheets of magnetic photo paper and print out business-card size photos of you two together. then cut out each magnet and draw around it with the sparkly marker.

Try the Dollar Tree / Store for some novelties. There are toys etc. for almost every wedding theme.
We never understood our daughter's choice: 2 DumDum suckers wrapped together w/ ribbon.

I'm not trying to be a wet-blanket here, but most wedding favors are really a waste of money considering that most of them end up in the garbage before you get to your honeymoon..... unless they are something to be eaten, (like chocolate) used immediately, (like soaps or candles) or something expensive (like silver picture frames) Keep that in mind.
