Generally speaking, pain when you breathe implies a strained intercostal muscle (themuscles between your ribs) or some kind of a respiratory issue (infection, etc). Your PE might very well be the cause of the pain. However, you can't rule out heart problems even in someone as young as you, without going to your doctor's and getting checked out. Chances are, it's nothing serious but only a doctor can tell you that. Meanwhile, you might try taking it easy, and skipping PE for a few days to see if that helps things. You also might try taking ibuprofen to see if that lessens the pain.
Hope this helps!
To galactics...kids under 18 should not take aspirin due to the risk of Reye's Syndrome...watch out when giving medical advice!

You may have what's called fascitis, or an inflammation in the fascia or connective tissue in your ribcage. You may have strained it during your crunches. Always go deliberately and slowly doing any exercise, never allow an incompetent teacher to convince you that you must do quick moves. Trust me, after 25 years of every kind of aerobics and calisthetics, I learned that the hard way. A lot of aerobics classes are much too fast. You won't feel the damage you're doing until years later, and then it will be too late. Good form and controlled completion of a move is more important of speed, and it actually gets you in shape faster and more safely. Good exercise is fabulous and its good to get into the habit while you're young. I hope you get good and safe instruction. If your pain doesn't go away in a week or two, it may be wise to see the school nurse or go to your family doctor. In the meantime, take aspirin or Motrin. And go easy on exercising that part of your body until it is healed.

I just had that a couple of days ago. You should go to the doctor, just in case. But I pulled a muscle near my lung, so when my lung would expand it would make contact with the muscle, causing severe pain. That's probably your condition. Laying on your left side will most likely make it easier to inhale. It worked for me.

Rita alab is right when she says that kids under 18 should not take aspirin. She is right about the other things she says, also, so I won't repeat them.
