Ask if there is the possibility of suspended prosecution or "continuance for dismissal" or any other form of "guilty plea, not accepted" which would mean you pay the prosecution costs but they keep it off your record if you agree to have no same or similar tickets for a period of one year -- and to pay your fine in full.At the end of one year, your plea is vacated and there is no record of this, it keeps it from affecting your insurance.

Pay the fine and then move on.

If it is your first one, what is the big deal? Obviously, you were speeding, and you were caught fair and square. So what is the question here?

I know that it isn't law, but cops sometimes allow a "buffer" of five miles over the posted limit. They have the legal right for pulling you over and ticketing you for going 2 miles per hour over the posted limit, but they typically don't. You were doing 12 mph over. That is a little excessive.

If you were within five miles, I would say to fight it, but being 12 miles over, you pretty much are caught.

You may want to check with your insurance. In Illinois, if you go and contest a speeding ticket in court, your rates don't go up due to the ticket because you are placed on court supervision along with the fine. That is the only thing I can think of to help you with.

Request permission to take a defensive driving course and, upon completion, the ticket will be banished from your record forever...No insurance rate increase...
In Texas I have done this and it is easy. Also in Texas you can only do this once a year. Hopefully that is enough. The law here only allows consideration for this program if you were driving under 25 miles per hour over the speed limit. You were only 12 mph over so it will probably be okay. Check your local laws and restrictions. Good luck and happy driving!

Take your lumps like a man. Otherwise check your speedometer,it might be off. Leave for work or any other appointment 40 minutes early. Go to traffic school. Fight the ticket as your insurance will go up too. You might plead not guilty in court and ask the officer if he is current on his certification for radar. Good luck.

If you plead not guilty, then they will set a court date, which you will have to appear for. Then, most likely the judge will reduce the ticket and give you less points. This worked for me, you can try it or just pay the ticket and watch out for an insurance increase. I really would try to fight it, it might be worth your while.

Pay it. That's what I did when I got a ticket out of state 70 in a 55 in gainsville FL. The only ticket I have ever had. (knock on wood)

Even if you plead not guilty, you'd have to the courthouse in the state in which you were arrested and pay the court fees--and that's only if they find you not guilty!

Best thing to do--pay it and move on. It happens to lots of us ^_^

Pay for it and get prepared for the insurance hike. Or take defensive driving and get it knocked off your record.
