If you don't have a good relationship with your father, there were probably no Butterfly Kisses or anything sweet like that. I'm having the same problem choosing a song. If you really want to dance with your father (and there's no reason you HAVE to do so), look at what you guys have in common or what you were listening to when times were decent (if this applies). For instance, many many moons ago (in the mid to late eighties), there were good times with my father when we would listen to music such as Bruce Springsteen and Led Zeppelin. You could also look at interests you may share--movies you watched together, sports, etc. This could inspire you to find a song that reflects on any good part of the relationship instead of masking it with sparkles and hearts. This may sound cheesy, but all this got me thinking of more classic rock songs and a greater variety of options than those songs with the fairies and butterflies and all things fluffy and cute. None of these cutsie things were part of my relationship with my father; I'm sure you can relate.

If you and your father are close enough for him to dance with you at your wedding, but yet your relationship is lacking, I would suggest a song that would make him pay attention. There is a country song by John Anderson called I wish I could've been there for that. The long and the short of it is that he was always busy when the kids were growing up,and when he is old and at home the kids are to busy to come and see him.

14. "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" (Elton John)
15. "Daddy's Little Girl" (Al Martino)
16. "Daddy's Hands" (Holly Dunn)
17. "If I Could" (Ray Charles)
18. "Isn't She Lovely" (Stevie Wonder)
19. "Lean on Me" (Bill Withers)
20. "Lullaby" (Billy Joel)
21. "My Funny Valentine" (Carly Simon)
22. "My Girl" (The Temptations)
23. "She's Leaving Home" (The Beatles)
24. "Sunrise, Sunset" (from Fiddler on the Roof)
25. "Thank Heaven For Little Girls" (Merle Haggard)
26. "The Way You Look Tonight" (Frank Sinatra)
27. "Times Of Your Life" (Paul Anka)
28. "Turn Around" (Harry Belafonte)
29. "You Are So Beautiful To Me" (Joe Cocker)
30. "Whenever I See Your Smiling Face" (James Taylor)
Remember it is YOUR wedding, if you don't feel like dancing with him one whole song you don't have to, my husband danced with his Mom and I danced with my Dad at the same time and then switched partners and everybody else came to the dance floor.
Enjoy it!

I just got married, and was in the same position. Weddings are what ever you want, and you don't have to dance with him at all. If you want, ask him to dance later on in the evening, that way people will get their pics, and you're not making a show of it.

There's a song called Butterfly Kisses. I don't remember who sings it but anyone who works in a music store would. It's about a father and his grown daughter, and his recollections of when she was a little girl and would give him butterfly kisses. Nice song.
