I think that would be fine to do if that is what both of you want. For your wedding day do what makes you happy not what everyone else wants.

My parents spent a fortune on my church wedding. If I had to do it over again I would have had a cheaper wedding and saved the money for the reception where all my friends could get more enoyment out of it.

My mom and step-dad got married in Las Vegas and then had a reception here in town and nobody said anything. But also it was both of their second marriages.

you can do whatever you want. An idea would be to have the jp come to your reception site, if you want to share that with everyone, but not be in a church.

Instead you should have a simple church wedding, the simpler, the more elegant. There is no reason to empty your wallet. You will be leaving your family to start your own, and they should be there to see your vows.

i wish we did, we're both agnostic (at the moment) so church wedding didn't mean much except an added expense but it looked nicer than a civil wedding and a priest looked better than a civil servant.

Yes - but part of the joy of your parents and friends is seeing you get married, but it is your wedding and you get the final say.
