My cat has recently started dragging her butt along the ground. At first we thought is was funny but I am starting to think that maybe something is bothering her? Does anyone have any idea what it might be

Hi there...this generally is common with pet animals who are having problems expressing their anal glands (see illustrations: http://www.dr-dan.com/analsac.htm ). Although worms could also contribute to this behaviour, more often it is the glands. Please refer to the following websites to learn more about this and how it can be treated:

Ok It can mean many things. It could be fleas, worms, she could also be in heat or ready to go into heat. They rub on the floor for many reasons. It is gross but if it is worms, usually you can see them in her poop or on her butt itself. not all the time though just usually depends on how bad of a case. Same with fleas, you can usually see if she has a bad case of fleas and if they are bothering her. As far as her being in heat, it usually only lasts a week or so, and if (again gross but a way to tell) you look at her butt area you may see spotting or light blood....Take her to the vet to find out for sure and get medication if needed. It is better to be safe then sorry.

As a cat owner for ( censured ) years , I can tell you that 9 times out of 10 , the butt-dragging is due to worms.. get her to vet asap .. it will take about a 7-10 day program to get her right. No biggie here, but you do need to address this before it gets any worse.

It could mean a few things, but it definitely means that her rear end is irritated. It may be worms or some type of infection, but you really need to get her to the vet. It'll be an easy fix if you don't put it off.

Anal gland infection, take to the vet for a professional squeeze. We have a cat who had this for years and at one point was recommended for an operation because they start oozing smelly stuff eventually, but the wife was too soppy to authorize the operation and 18 months of stinking later he got better by himself.

It is cause cats and dogs both have anal glands and when they get full they need to release some of the pressure and you need to take them to the vet to get them cleaned out ever so often. Another reason they might do it is cause they may have worms.

Her butt is itching because she has worms and they are trying to come out. Nasty. Not fleas, she would be scratching all over. Get a wormer from walmart, or take her to the vet with a stool sample and find out exactly what kind of worms she has, and get a wormer from them.

Usually it means the cat was constipated and may not have gotten all the feces off of her butt or tail. My older cat has this problem and have to clean him off sometimes, as cats have a lot of dignity, she may not like it.

There is a possibility that she has worms. She is in discomfort and is itching herself. Check her stool and give de-worming medicine if necessary. You can get this in almost any pet store or even walmart in the pet section. Otherwise, ask your vet.
