From my experience - no.. in fact I lost a bit of weight (however this could have just been due to the level of depression I was experiencing at that time).

As said above, different meds affect different people in different ways.. You really just have to give it a try and see how it goes.

Whatever happens don't be disheartened, as there are sooo many options out there in terms of meds now.. and I'm sure you'll find one that will suit you fine.

Good luck! :0)

Sertraline hydrochloride (also labeled under numerous brand names: Zoloft, Sertralin, Lustral, Apo-Sertral, Asentra, Gladem, Serlift, Stimuloton, Xydep, Serlain, Concorz) is an orally administered antidepressant of the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) type. It was first approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 1991.

It will help you to gain weight but not in all cases. In most of the cases the side effects are very troublesome. Consult your doctor specifically about thes drug and if he agrees you can go ahead otherise not.

Medications affect everyone differently. In general, yes Zoloft can cause weight gain in a lot of people. If this does happen, though, it is important to talk to your doctor, there may be a better medication for you.

If you are more reactive to antidepressants, alcohol, or any type of sedative, then yes it will probably make you gain weight. It is like birth control thought, some people gain a lot of weight, some stay the same, and some even lose weight. If just depends on your body.

Both anorexia and increased appetite have been reported as side effects, so, if you feel hungry and eat more, you could gain weight.
