it's called being politically correct. It's a shame that people are afraid to speak the truth because they are afraid of offending someone. Nowadays, you have to watch every word you say or someone is sure to jump down your throat for it. It's a shame.

I'm sure the whole world doesn't agree with it. Just the part you live in does. I also think its pretty logical to apologize to somone after calling them homosexual in an antagonistic manner that makes him look bad. Just because he's gay, doesn't mean he's a bad person right? So why did the pope have to make islam look bad when its not. (i'm speaking from non biased point of view)
Researchers say in order to know about something you must invistigate your self instead of listen to only the media. You want to know what muslims are like, try talking to muslims passing by you everyday.
The Pope, obviously with his respectful, humble, and spritual thoughts decided to say something that sounds hateful and criticizing towards muslims. Muslims in turn couldn't hold their temper and went rioting in some parts of the world. was there alot of muslims rioting in America? No, because society-wise americans know how to control their temper better than other countries.

Ugh, the comment is taken totally out of context. He apologized for the reaction his statement and quote it was not meant to incite violence or attack Muslims though it is true that it is evil and inhuman to kill someone for your beliefs. Right after the 14th century comment he talked of non violence "Violence is incompatible with the nature of God and the nature of the soul. "God", he says, "is not pleased by blood — and not acting reasonably, "ÏÏ
Ìν λÏγÏ," is contrary to God's nature. Faith is born of the soul, not the body. Whoever would lead someone to faith needs the ability to speak well and to reason properly, without violence and threats... To convince a reasonable soul, one does not need a strong arm, or weapons of any kind, or any other means of threatening a person with death...".
Out of that speech, offense and a (un) holy war declared against all those who follow the cross, not just the Catholics. Churches burned, nuns killed, protests and burning of Pope effigies. Al Killya makes threats, I imagine it is that, he didn't mean to offend and hurt people but truth is truth and I highly doubt any more apologies or a retraction of the comment will be given. Even more the 14th century statement holds true to this day. Dialog not bombs is needed

He appologized cause he does not want Catholics attacked in Muslim Lands. Plus he probably aint to hip on getting assinated.
The appology is fear of Muslim reprisals.
Muhommed silenced his critics and some Muslims believe it is thier duty to strike at any criticism or cartoon pertaining to thier prophet.
The actions of the killers and vandals in the name of Muhammed sure proves that quote by the pope from the medieval manuscript to be correct.
There is alot of hate and hypopcricy brewing in some of the Muslims.
Muslims are in a bondage that needs to be broken. They follow a false prophet. Muhammed raped, pillaged and killed. Until they free themselves of such evil the rage will continue on.

Perhaps you could cite the polls indicating the majority of the community agreed with the Pope?

If somebody told you, "Apologize for calling me violent -- or I'll kill you!" would you apologize? Or just fall about laughing? He's the Pope, he can't laugh in public, so what else could he do?

Well, I wouldn't say the majority agrees with it.
However, the pope didn't actually say it, he "quoted" it from a 14th century byzantine emperor

He shouldn't have to apologize for speaking the truth. The fact that he apologized at all makes it worse.
And this is from an atheist.

he stopped just short of an appology. his words still stand, and are true!. he did appologise for the towel heads taking it the way they did. just to stop the riots and protesting. which only proved him right to begin with!.
