It would be nice if you could just be honest with him. Tell him you would like to be his friend but that you are not ready to have a relationship yet. Blaming it on your mom isn't really fair to either one of them. Part of growing up is taking responsibility for yourself. This would be a good starting point for you. Good Luck.

If this new guy is as sweet as you say he is then explain that just right now you are NOT ready o be anything more than friends to anyone.
Not sure how long ago you lost baby but maybe you are still having a few raging hormones in your system and to be honest you need some YOU time.....plus I am sure that if you was 5 months gone then he would have seen you around campus looking pregnant and would understand.
As for your ex.....oh hun he sounds like a HUGE loser and just think how it would have been for you to be bringing up his child ALONE whilst he slipped off and had all his fun..........you wait this one might get pregnant as well and watch him rush away again......say a quick prayer you got out of this DO NOT GO BACK............

I think it would be best to tell this new guy the truth. Tell him you are still hurting from your last relationship and that you would love to be friends. I think you should try to move on, because it seems that your ex-boyfriend has. There are many fish in the sea, and many good fish at that. If this new guy really likes you and is as sweet and gentle as you say, he will be your friend untill your ready. And just because you and this new guy are friends doesn't mean you have to date him, but maybe try friendship first. Sometimes those are the relationships that last a lifetime. Good luck to you and stay away from the ex.

I think you should just tell him that you really like being friends with him, and you just don't like him in that way. If he's a good friend he'll understand and keep being friends with you. But if your mom has never said that you couldn't date him, you shouldn't blame it on her. It is true you are 18 yrs old already, old enough to make your own decisions but also old enough to handle your own situations!

Don't date someone you are not interested in. It is a waste of your time and his time. Ask him if he would just like to be friends and tell him you want nothing more. If he does not respect that or accept it, then he will not be a good friend worth having. If you lie to him or lead him on, then you are in the wrong.

HOW can you love your ex after all he did to you. if things were different he would still be running so he wouldnt have to give you money. SO really you have had a lucky break. forget the ex idiot. BUT dont date the new guy if you dont like him. that wouldnt be fair on him. & dont blame your mam. just tell him your not ready for a relationship yet.

Joshuah Harris...get his books and read all of them...put the new guy off for a while and after you read the books give them to him to read...and then make some decision...do not use people to get out of things...just be upfront...tell him your not over your 'x' but tell him you are flattered that he thinks of you in this way....and maybe in the future when you are ready to consider being courted...perhaps he will still be available!

well first you should just be honest with him and tell him your iffy about dating because you had a bad experience. Don't go in to detail's. You need time to heal from your traumatic experience of loosing your baby and breaking up with your boy friend. You need to move on, He has. Good luck honey

don't use your mother at all. she has nothing to do with you dating a guy you don't want to date.
just tell him you are not interested. what is the big deal? why can't people just be honest to each other? you are not hurting him if you tell him the truth. i know it is not easy, but you will do him and yourself a favor.

it wasnt such a bad thing to do......as long as you did not put your mom in a bad light and painted her as some kind of a monster or an unreasonable mom. that would be unfair to her.....BUT it would still be better to tell this guy that you are just not ready yet and needs time for yourself and for him to transfer his affection to another girl. In that way, he won't be left hanging and hoping... know what i mean?
