Though the bombings were in the South part of Thailand where they have had problems. So far any problems have been localized in the South. The south being 1200 to 1500 miles away at the Southern tip of Thailand. To date there has not been a problem in or near Bangkok. If you were planning on visiting the southern section then I would not visit. Places like Phuket, Phi, Kho Samui should be safe. This recent bombing would probably incite the government to really crack down on the Muslims. Watch the news, www.bangkokpost.com is one english news source. Fairly neutral politically, actually more against the governement that anything.

Ditto what Spanky says.

I was in the north for a few weeks this April. Very peaceful. Also stopped in Bankok. No problems. My Thai friends told us that there weren't any, either. Explosions & violence are an issue with the far southern provinces, which have a muslim majority (only part of Thailand where this is so) & were only made part of Thailand less than a hundred years ago..

I would go to Thailand anytime & would not worry.

;-)

I've have plans to go to ChiengMai and Chiengrai next month. The latest bombings that occured in Hadyai recently which killed a canadian hasn't in anyway deter me from going ahead with my plans. Those terrorist are trying hard to scare us(farang) from visiting Thailand. They want to bring this beautiful country to its knees. If we the tourists refrain from going, then indirectly we are handing them an outright victory. We should deny them of any sense of winning from this psychological game. If we stay away this will only embolden those bastard to cause more havoc. This is not the right time to stay away from Thailand. we should send a strong message that evil will be defeated soon by coming in droves.

Not at all. In the vastest portion of Thailand there is no effect or danger. Traditionally conducted in the three southern most provinces with a Muslim population, with these explosions, insurgent activities have now appeared in two adjoining provinces.
None of this activity effects the balance of Thailand and its tourist hubs. Hey, no problem for visiting tourists. Come along!

Thailand is not as big or small as Singapore. It is not as if you are in Siglap and the blasts happen in Boon Lay. Just avoid the 3 southern provinces. The rest of Thailand is safe, even with this coup. Foreigners are not disturbed.

the bomb had happened in the deep south of thailand,it's the 3 provinces in the south near the border to malasia. those all 3 provinces are muslim culture areas,so u know nowaday muslim place everywhere are not welcom for westerner or isaraeli.

just avoid those 3 provinces of muslim area, then u will be fine.

so if u gonna travel in thailand,it's still okay and very safty in the middle, north, northeastern, east and the upper south and of course bangkok.

enjoy your time in thailand.

Southern Thailand is a long long way off the rest of Thailand proper - Bangkok and its environs and everywhere else right up to Chiengmai, Chiengrai are oblivious to the muslim separatists violence way down south.

THAILAND's definitely still a land of smiles.

What do you think? I would not really want to be hit by a bomb. It is natural instinct to stay away from things that hurt us, so yeah people should stay away from harmful things.

I do not even like to stand under fireworks of a gun shooting upward, so bombs would be more of a threat to me. They might cause a major injury.
