Come on now, this world isn't THAT bad .. the sweetest thing anyone ever did for me was kind of silly. When at an SCA event, a young squire [knight in training] noticed I was limping and offered to carry my stuff all the way to my tent ... a good mile and a half from the road. That same kid also made sure that I had plenty snacks and water when I couldn't make it around on foot. It was totally not necessary for him to do that and it was about seven years ago ... every year I see him and he's still as sweet as can be. Alas, he's a knight now ... and a strapping one at that!

So come on, come on. Don't be shy. Step on up and post away!

I've had nice things done for me, and I've done lots of nice things for others (which I enjoy quite a bit MORE than the former). The sad thing is, not a single event on my account seems to stand out well enough for noting here.

Does anyone out there want to do something REALLY nice for me? C'mon, I'm a good guy... I'd REALLY appreciate it! It'd give me a chance to reciprocate!

Hey, I'm in the SCA, too! Pennsic XXXV was perfect weather!
Anyway, the nicest thing anyone did for me is:

My friend Christine came to visit me in the hospital. I had been in there for a week and five more to go, doped up on pain meds and strong antibiotics (systemic staph infection from a knee surgery) and bedridden and hadn't taken a shower and my hair was all in knots. I didn't even know she was there, but I found out later that she spent two hours combing out my hair, then washing it with a small basin and a washcloth.

I was taking a cab home from work one day, many years ago ( I was 8 months pregnant and not going anywhere I didn't need to at the time). The driver asked me had I seen the ice-sculpture at the river yet. When I said no, he went quite out of his way to show me. He parked the car and we admired an enormous ice rendering of Romeo and Juliet for a few minutes - no extra charge. It was one of those moments that makes one realize, there really are some warm-hearted people out there.

Well, I'll have to say that one of the nicest things was how my friends are always helping me when I get a boyfriend (I'm really shy), and one time last year, a guy I REALLY liked did this really mean thing: he told this guy in front of him in the lunch line about this 'new trick that he learned'. So he grabbed the guys hand and made him slap me on the rear!! I was so embarrassed, but at the same time I was laughing. At P.E. later that day, he stood beside me against the wall for a few minutes and said that he was sorry and that that was a really mean thing for him to do to me!!!! I thought that it was so sweet!

About 3months ago,My other half and my son 2 yrs old, were waiting for the bus,it happened to be raining cats and dogs,i had not brought the umbrella of course, We must have been waiting for 40mins at least, the buses are bad out west,we must have looked like drowned rats, because a car pulled up and the man said where are you headed, i told him where we were going and he said to get in you can`t stand in the rain with the little boy,and that he would drop us off at our front door not at the bus stop we were going to. I couldn`t believe it this stranger gave us lift all the way home,i couldn`t thank him enough He has brought back my faith in fellow man again THANK YOU SO MUCH.,that is just how aussies are.

One of the nicest things was after my father had his first cancer surgery, and Mom and I came back from the hospital, spaced out and shocky. A neighbor's kid rang the doorbell....carrying a meatloaf, casserole of scallopped potatoes, and chunk of cake.

They knew we'd need to eat, but wouldn't be able to do anything more complex than pour milk. It's been over 25 years, and I still remember that great kindness!

So many things. It was my birthday last week on the bottomof the card my father wrote "the day you were born I learnt how to love" which is so unlike my dad. People do nice stuff all the time just no one seems to notice.
Sincere thank you's to every person who does anything "just nice" for anyone.

I had three friends hold me together when I was falling apart. The irony is that these weren't people I would have ever expected to stand by me like that. It's true... when the it all hits the fan and life goes south, you really do find out who the good guys are.

Finally a nice question...

I never got to say a proper goodbye to my cat before he died and I received a card in the mail from him from heaven telling me that he knew how much I loved him. (Thanks Mom)

When I was living in the Middle East a bomb went off a mile down the road. I was scared and spent the rest of the Pesach dinner in the hotel ladies room. My partner excused himself from the feast and sat with me in the stall.

When I turned 21 I lost a few friends and was feeling down. My partner stole my palm pilot from my purse while I was in the gym and threw a surprise party for me.

My Dad went psycho...just for me...now that is LOVE!

My best friend. Though married and in love with her husband she knew I was alone and sad, so she decided to take a whole day off, just to stay with me and make me feel loved and important for one day in my life. Unforgettable. Continues to be the most important person in my life although I never saw her again.
