Ok, no adult of a 17 year old wrote this... plus you screw up and say "i now weigh around 217 pounds." and "stretch marks on MY upper thighs" etc...
So yea, you are overweight. At 5'10 and 217 pounds you are, technically obese.
You know what the problem is, you say you binge on sweets and don't exercise. So you know what you need to change, just get into the game mentally and deicde you want/need to change.
Honestly, do it before you're 30 and have diabetes.

First of all it seems you're more concerned with the way he looks with extra weight rather than his health. Second of all, I wouldn't say he's fat, but maybe losing 25 lbs would be a good idea. But at 5' 10" 217 isn't fat, just slightly overweight. He's tall so him being at least 180 is a healthy weight. Suggest maybe fruits for sweets and taking a walk daily. Or even sports. Once guys get active they lose weight fast. It just may have been the summer splurge. Most of all encourage him, don't discourage him.

Depending on his build, he should weigh anywhere from 145 to 180 lbs. so at 217 he is definitely overweight. More to the point, his body mass index (BMI), which is the measurement of choice for most physicians, of more than 30 indicates that he is obese. This means he is at greater risk for heart disease, among a host of other ailments. In the interest of his health, encourage him to see a doctor for a physical exam and talk to a trainer and a nutritionist!

Sounds like he doing a little smoking on the side, and not just regular cigarettes!you know?! He almost an adult and is fully conscience of what he is doing to his body. Maybe you should let him know that he really let himself go. Sometimes a person just needs a little small push in the right direction cause they kind of loose sight of the right way.

No, yet puberty could reason the guy to strengthen taller and the burden will distribute itself extremely, so as that they are able to look a sprint thinner (yet no longer lots). An obese pre-teen has already developed ingesting behavior that placed the burden on, and except they regulate their ingesting behavior to be greater healthful and weight-huge conscious, they are going to be an obese teen and person.

Your ideal weight is 100 lbs. at 5 feet. For men add 7 lbs. for every inch above that. So his ideal weight should be 170. What caused him to gain so quickly? Is he depressed or stressed out? I would try to find that out first. Something might be wrong in his life and he's using food to deal with it.

Seriously overweight, either you or your son, not sure which you are. Time to stop the carb and sugar intake, begin walking daily, then work up to some good exercise otherwise you will have issues the rest of your life (whichever of you it is)

This is a hard one because he is 17 it will be harder to watch his dietdo what you can to let him know your concerns and see where it goes from there. also tell him he could be fit with muscle and go that route he may be more apt to work out than to stop eating.
