I should remind people that the Ban will only apply to Public and Private Clubs and Bars, but not also to bus stops and high streets

its come far too late. we avoid public places with our children, because they have asthma. its a drug if only the government would make it illegal, i tell you the nhs would be in a far better state if there were no smokers. they wouldn't spend so much on smoking related cancers such as lung, throat, mouth and the instances of heart disease would drop dramatically, not to mention, blood clots and diabetes. ban it completely for me.

I live in Scotland where we already have the ban.
I'm a smoker and I think the ban on smoking in pubs etc is OK. Its a lot easier not to smoke on a night out because no-one is smoking around you and its often too cold to go outside.
I'm also curious to see if the ban really does aid the failing health service which I dont think it will.

Where is this ban?

I am a non-smoker and I am opposed to smoking bans. Whether a place is non-smoking or allows smoking should be up to the owner alone. It should be market driven. People have a choice, if they don't want to be exposed then they could go to a non-smoking bar. If most people choose that, then the bar will continue to provide its service.

Why can't they give smokers a places to enjoy their addiction where they won't harm someone else's health or offend anyone There used to be "smoke rooms" why cant we have them again I know smoking is unhealthy and don't need to be told every time I have one but people seem to need to do it every time "you should give up it's unhealthy!" There are risks in everyday life but banning them just so you live longer is not the solution. Being fat is just as unhealthy (second biggest cause of preventable death) but you aren't going to ban eating in public. I smoke and enjoy a night out with my friends but not if I can't smoke anywhere there's other people....

what about the water everyone drinks? state to state are they going to take out drinking fountains? Still put water in plastic bottles. They know that causes cancer. they even have warnings on powder laundry soaps does anyone care if i breath that in when i go into a laundry mat ? Give it up do all these people who smoke pot even think of what chemicals ,insecticides, pesticides, they suck up and force into their lungs? People lets get real. Not to mention the taxes smokers pay.well may as well add the drinkers on here too. Should we close the bars because of drinking and driveing , or fights, or livers and lost jobs what companies pays those loses back to people. If you dont like a place that has smoking then why go there?Thats what i dont get.

It makes me very angry. I guess no one sees the drug dealers on every corner. The cigarette company's didn't have to pay any fines, or conpensation after they raised the cigarette taxes. WHY? That money could have went to the cancer society. Brest milk is contaminated with rocket fuel in most states. The factories are killing us, and everyone picks on the little guys. Why isn't the tax $ on cigarettes going to the cancer foundation. Cigarette co. are now making them 10% more tar & nicoteen. I have only one vice. We have rotating door in prisons, and what about Aids, and all we hear about is us poor smokers of 40 some years, who worked all our life. Where does our taxes go? No S.S. for future generations. The war, and all we care about is smokers? This is sad. CIA brought in drugs during Viet Nam, what about our Vets? Does anybody care about their health? Ozone layer being destroyed. People just like to gripe at each other. And the govrnm. rolls in the big money.

We've had it in Scotland for about 6 months and it's brilliant. Now you can eat a meal and actually taste it instead of tasting someone else's second-hand smoke. And you can sit in a pub and not come home reeking
About the bus-stop thing - it depends whether it has 3 sides and a roof or not. 2 sides and a roof - you can smoke. 3 sides, no roof, you still can. but 3 sides and a roof - no way hose

Even when I smoked I agreed with it. I never smoked in crowded places, why should other people have to suffer for my pleasure? I have given up now because I had a baby, it annoys me though when people are stranding next to my pram and light a cigarette! Not only does the smoke blow into my sons face, but they hold it where he can grab it!

Definitely a good thing. your clothes don't stink after a night out. However certain pubs look better in a haze of smoke? here in Scotland the ban has been in place since end of March.
